Rating: Summary: An illustration book- not a music book Review: This book's title is misleading. This is not a songbook- it's a collection of beautiful illustrations. As in their related publication of "The night before Christmas" the producers have selected absolutely gorgeous Christmas illustrations. If you enjoy these, then the book may provide you with much pleasure. If you are interested in music- as the title here suggests, you are sure to be sadly disappointed. Included are the texts to many Christmas songs, both old and new. Unlike lots of other "Christmas treasury" collections of songs, you'll probably recognize most or all of these. There are texts from the old classics and plenty of new ones too-like "Jingle Bell Rock", or "All I want for Christmas". You will need to recognize all the songs too, since they choose to include only 4-8 MEASURES of melody in most cases! How could anybody call a book with single-note score settings of fragments of songs a "songbook"? I found that scanning through this book made me very angry. Since I own and love their edition of "The night before Christmas", I would have planned to buy this one sight-unseen. I'm glad I didn't- this book has no target audience, it's a pure profit generator. They would have done better to simply call it a collection of classic illustrations and perhaps choose song quotes as a means of organizing the illustrations by theme.
