Review: Hi, my name is Edward. The book I read is One Dark and Scary Night by Bill Cosby. The story is about a boy named little Bill. He thought there was something in is his closet. He got very scared, so he ran to his mom and dad's room and said, "I am going to sleep here." Then his grandma got him to go to sleep. I thought this book was good. It has funny pictures. I recommend every child who likes funny stories to read it. I give it five stars.

Review: I LOVED this book....right up until the end, when the grandmother has to resort to "magic" to get rid of the "monsters"---thereby supporting a child's belief in both.

Summary: This Little Bill book is one that parents should read too
Review: In "One Dark and Scary Night" Little Bill is alone in his dark room trying to go to sleep when he starts hearing strange sounds. He becomes absolutely convinced that there is some "mean things" in his closet that are going to touch him. But when he tries to jump into bed with his parents or Alice the Great, they keep telling him that he is a big boy now and he has to sleep in his own bed. But whereas his mother opens the door to his bedroom closet and shows Little Bill that there is nothing there, Alice the Great has a better idea. Actually, she has a whole series of them, which is good, because Little Bill has a lot of objections to all of her ideas.

As Dr. Alvin F. Poussiant points out in his letter to parents at the front of "One Dark and Scary Night," a child's imagination can not only be a source of delight but it can also cause them torment. A young kid running screaming into their parents' room because they are convinced that something in the dark is going to get them is pretty much universal. In Bill Cosby's story the point is that facts and logic are not really a match for a vivid imagination and that you need something more powerful to fight off an imaginary fear, especially when it comes out at night. In addition to the tactics employed by Alice the Great, Poussaint lays out several other things that parents can do to make their children feel safe. The key lesson here is that there is not one thing that works with all children and that parents should be prepared to try different options. This is one Little Bill Book for Beginning Readers that will probably be of more value to adults that to kids.

Summary: This is an excellent book
Review: In our resource room we have several Little Bill books available for the students. One Dark and Scary Night has to be the favorite of my students with learning disabilities. The illustrations and text quickly develop the personality of the characters to hold the student's attention. Frequently, students want to reread this book which is a great sign of student success and enjoyment of reading. I also appreciate how the author presents the elderly grandma character in the story.

Review: This book was real good. I like the quilt part. I also like the part where he was running down the hall to his Grandma's room. I am not scared of the dark anymore.
