Summary: Perloo the Magnificent
Review: Perloo the Bold is a magnificent story for all kinds of people. Perloo is a Montmer who likes to read an just lay around. Jolaine was the old Granter and Lucabara was her first assistant. Joliane recommends that Perloo become the Granter when she dies because Perloo is an expert in Montmer history, even though her son, Berwig, is supposed to become the next Granter. Berwig's friend, Senyous, helps him plot against Perloo. Joliane's proclamation gets ripped in half and they change the proclamation in favor of Berwig. Perloo makes great decisions throughout the story.

I recommend this book for 5th and 6th graders. Parents should read the book too because there are great adventures on every page. So please read this magnificent book!

Summary: Perloo the Lame
Review: Perloo the Bold is one of those new fangled children's novels- all touch feely and politically correct. Perloo is a rabbit-like Montmer who enjoys history and reading. The dying leader of the Montmers feels that Perloo's expertise in history qualifies him to be her successor. However her son has other ideas and Perloo finds himself on the run, striving to prevent a war between the Montmers and their rivals.
What bugged me about this book, is that it tries to be edgy- characters are threatened with death repeatedly, but halfway through you know nothing the least bit unpleasant is going to happen. And of course after an ending that will have even children rolling their eyes, the bad guys are humbled and everyone else learns to live in harmony. Blecch. It's too bad because there was some potential here. The sayings of Mogwart the Magpie were clever and the political maneuverings between Berwig and Senyous were welcome in a children's book. It just couldn't make up for the bland story. Although I wasn't especially impressed with Redwall it is miles better than this

Summary: Perloo the Bold: Good book, bad ending
Review: Perloo, a bunny-ish creature called a Montmer, is a quiet guy who likes to hang out and read at home. But one day he is called out to fight in the Montmer army, which he really doesn't want to do. I liked this book a lot, although the ending was surprising in a bad sort of way. Stop HERE if you don't want me to give away the ending. Gone...? Yes? Good. Near the end of the book, Perloo becomes the "granter" of the Montmers. (The granter is sort of like the leader or one in charge.) This is the highest possible title. Instead of remaining the wisest granter the Montmers ever have (which in my opinion would be good), he resigns about five minutes after being appointed and says that there shouldn't be a granter, but everyone should contribute to what the society does. That is an okay ending, but personally, I would have liked it if he had remained granter, like I said before. But over all, a very good book. I recommend it to anyone who likes to read quiet, boring books. Yes, you heard me right! Go out there and read an exciting book for the quiet soul!
