Summary: I LOVED IT!!!!!!
Review: I loved how Louis Sacher described Angeline's personality and life. I thought it was sweet that she could be anything from a layer to president, but she wanted to be a gar bage person like her father. I have read Wayside school books, but this was THE funniest of them all! I felt sorry for Angeline because she was laughed at for doing things that came natural to 8 year olds. Like, for example, sucking her thumb and being very emotional about every thing. I agree with Miss Turbone (a.k.a. Mr.Bone) when she said that if she had Mrs. Hardlick as a teacher, she'd go to the aquarium too. I rejoyced when Mellisa Turbone fell in love with Abel. Angeline deserved a mother. In my heart I know that they got married. I got worried when Angeline fell in the ocean and almost drowned. But, it WAS funny when she awoke in the hospital room to a joke. If I was Goon (Gary) I would have probably fainted when she said "What?". I loved this book with all of my heart. It is my third favorite book ever!! My first favorite is The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe. Look for my review on it! READ SOMEDAY ANGELINE!!!!!!

Summary: Still thinking of Someday Angeline
Review: I read this book when I was about 10 years old (18 years ago). I loved it! I ended up reading it so many times that it had yellowed and the edges of the paperback frayed. At 28, I have recommended it to numerous people - most recently, my 7-year-old. She is a little ahead of where she should be in school and having a hard time socially because of it

Angeline went through some tough times and tough lessons. She "disappointed people" and misunderstood by even more people. This story is written so simply that it makes it easy to share with teens and young kids. The book is full of hope, laughter, a little nervousness (at the pier), and a lot of growing up. I recommend this to most kids that find themselves feeling a little out of place. Or for anyone who just wants a good read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK!
Review: Louis Sacher has to be the best writer in the world! He has a great since of humor and he writes in great detail. Angeline is a genius. I think that anyone who hates this book is weird!

Summary: Someday, Angeline
Review: The book that ties in with Louis Sachar's Dogs don't tell jokes. Angeline is a witty, smart, but ridiculed kid. She can't understand why everybody makes fun of her, even if she's the class einstein. Her widowed father meets Miss Turbone who she calls Mr.Bone, and Angeline meets Gary Boone(aka Goon) who is the class clown. Gary has the same problems as Angeline, everybody thinks he just tells jokes and is the class clown. This is one of Louis Sachar's finest books and is extremely sad if you get everything.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An imperfect masterpiece of children's literature.
Review: This is Louis Sachar's first book, and it shows. But nevertheless, it is marvelous. It presents a world more relentlessly sad than any he would explore until Holes, his latest. It flies off into passages of philosophy and beauty that seem to simply escape Sachar like children finally leaving home. It has a long list of extremely appealing characters, none more than Angeline, the protagonist and emotional center of the book, despite her sometimes perplexing mind. It makes me cry, it really does. Read Sachar's later works for polish and craft, but read this one for absolute sincerity and heart.

Summary: More brilliant than a gem, lovelier than a flower
Review: This is my favorite children's book of all time. I picked it up tonight, started rereading from some random point in the middle, and couldn't stop; further, I was chuckling aloud to myself or thinking "That's _so_ sweet" on every other page, literally. The book acts simple, with its very simple writing style, but it is beautifully deep and expansively meaningful. Lines like this--

Gary turned around in delight. "You're back!" he declared.

"So are you!" said Angeline.

"I've always been here," said Gary.

"You're back to me," said Angeline.

--are only a few of the countless moments of delight. This book is a real work of literature, a masterpiece of wit, tender sweetness, and utter beauty. It speaks of a father's love for his daughter and of a romantic's insight into what really matters. _Someday Angeline_ affects your heart forever after.

Summary: This is my favorite story of all! 1,000 stars for Angeline!
Review: This is my very favorite book! It is a wonderful story about being accepted in a community where we consider the "norm" to be the standard. Angeline is an eight year old "genius", and she has a very hard time fitting in... She is sent to a higher grade than she's supposed to be in, no one likes her, and ever her father doesn't know how to talk to her. If only he tried, he might discover that she is more normal than anyone imagines.
There are some things that Angeline knew before she was born. I find this a fun part of the book, because it leaves this unexplained... And lets you guess. If Mr. Sachar did explore into this more, I think it might have ruined the story. It is just one of those mysteries that makes you wonder. It also adds character to Angeline.
Angeline is "in balance with the whole". She understands things that others can't even perceive.
On the other hand, she wants to be accepted. She wants to be included. And it isn't until she meets a funny boy named Gary and his kind teacher, Miss Turbone (Mr. Bone) that she finds confidence in herself.
A beautiful story! I can't tell you how much I love it.
One thousand stars!!

Summary: You never know....
Review: You never know what to expect from a Louis Sachar book. The one thing you can always be sure of however is quality literature for young people that also appeals to adults. I have always been amazed at how this lawyer from California is able to weave elements of his stories together and not ignore the details. Little mysteries from the beginning of the story will make sense in the end.

Angeline is too smart for her own good and is not well like at school, until she meets a young boy who is sort of an outcast himself. The two of them befriend a teacher who befriends Angeline's father. The story was cute and I was able to relate Angeline and really felt for her. I did have 2 problems however.

First, Sachar routinely talks about the things Angeline knew before she was born because she was connected to the world, but he does not explore this topic as much as I would have liked, or expected. Also, I felt the suggested future romantic relationship between Angeline and Gary to be a little much considering she is only 8 years old. These are both small issues, but they did prevent the book from getting a five star rating.

Why 4 stars?:
With the exception of two flaws: 1 dealing with a concept not being explored fully, the other with content, this book was very enjoyable. It is not the most open for discussion of Sachar's works, but there is still plenty to talk about. I would recommend this book for intermediate students and their classrooms - it is already a part of mine.
