Summary: Good for an intermediate student, nice illustrations
Review: This book begins with a short history of music, describing how different types of 'classical' written music evolved from the 14-15th century to the present century. Then, it has one page samples of the different types of classical music (opera, hymns, descriptive, spiritual,..) along with a brief description of the author, or the music. I liked the diagrams that illustrated these descriptions. In the back of the book are hints for playing the pieces. This book is good for an intermediate student, and gives a nice overview of classic music.
