Summary: Too cutesy to be helpful
Review: A lilting cadence and cute pictures make this a charming text, but the message it conveys is useless in terms of actually helping kids protect themselves. By portraying all the "strangers" as animals, it doesn't really address the devious ways people can try to harm children. It just repeats over and over that whether you see a kangaroo, a hippo, whatever, "never talk to strangers." But, it goes on to say, if you are introduced to someone (a friend of a friend), that person is "not a stranger" and thereby, the book implies, "safe." While this is a clean distinction, children are most likely to be abused by someone they actually know, and should be taught what kinds of behavior is ok from adults (strangers or not) and what isn't. I suppose it doesn't hurt to teach children not to talk to strangers, but it would be more useful to teach them not to go anywhere with strangers.

Summary: Never Talk to Strangers
Review: This is a very good book for young children. It teaches children not to talk to strangers no matter what they do. Even if they say that they have something for you, you just stay away and do not talk to them.
