Rating: Summary: The story of the creator of Beezus and Ramona Review: I had known for a long time that Ramona Quimby and the other kids on Klickitat Street in Portland, Oregon were some of the most popular characters in children's literature. But I really had no idea how long they had been around. In "Meet Beverly Cleary" her adoring readers will find out how she started writing books fifty years ago and where she got some of her ideas. This book is illustrated with historic photographs, including several of the author standing near figures in the Beverly Clearly Sculpture Garden in Portland, as well as pictures from some of her earlier books. If you have read any of the books published by PowerKids Press then you know this book is geared for young readers, certainly on a level comparable to the one at which Cleary writes in her books. "Meet Beverly Cleary" provides a basic introduction to the author. Other titles in the About the Author series will introduce young readers to A. A. Milne, J. K. Rowling, Shel Silverstein, E. B. White and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
