Summary: Like Me. A special book for special children
Review: "Like Me" by Dawn Martelli fills a desire to be like others when a child views himself/herself as someone who is "different" albeit, through no fault of their own. Knowing they are not alone boosts their self-esteem remarkably. This facinating story will turn their "special" situation into an "exceptional" situation with a whole new view on their own life's circumstances. Both "special" children, and those they associate with everyday, can benefit greatly from this book.

Summary: Great Christmas present
Review: As a grandmother of five, I plan to purchase LIKE ME by Dawn Martelli for holiday gifts. Many children will identify with the longing Miquel has for a dog of his own. When the farm next door has puppies for sale, Miquel explains to his parents that he's now eight and "quite old enough to take care of a dog." Miquel is portrayed as an articulate child who knows how to work hard for what he wants. After earning money to purchase a puppy, he insists on selecting one who stumbles and is pushed aside by his litter mates. Young readers will wonder about Miquel's choice, but his reason is made clear at the end . . . and in the title of this poignant story. The softly rendered watercolor paintings by Jennifer Heyd Wharton enhance the gentle mood. Her cover painting of an appealing puppy will entice readers of all ages to open the book and open their hearts to Miquel and his little canine friend.

Summary: Sandra Hill, mother of five children
Review: I am a mother of five children and recieved this book as a gift. After I read Like Me to my children, ages ranging from third grade to seventh grade, they requested that I read it again. Since then, Like Me has become their favorite book to read at bed time. The story opens your heart and the illustrations are soft eye candy. Thank you for a story that keeps my children interested in reading.

Summary: For every child
Review: LIKE ME is for every special child, and each child is special in some way. I believe Dawn Martelli's book will become a requested and repeated part of many reading and listening hours. The author creates a real world children would like to be in, and makes the reader or listener feel the same tug of longing Miquel feels in the story. They and you will long to hug that puppy on the cover and in the illustrations, too. The warm surprise at the end makes it all just right.

Summary: The heart knows its own perfection
Review: This is the story of a persistent boy who wants the puppy he has chosen from the litter.  Mr. Sanders, who is selling the puppies, tells Miquel to pick another puppy. This one is crippled and will never run and play with him, like the other dogs. But Miquel will not change his mind.  He knows what he wants. This is the puppy he loves. The most important message of this story is that love sees perfection with its own eyes.  Jennifer Heyd Wharton's watercolor illustrations sweetly depict Dawn Martelli's story.
