The Adventures of the Black Hand Gang

Summary: I love this book!
Review: Coming to the end of the school year, the library staff was literally setting books alight. Worn and damaged copies were to find their final fate floating heaven-ward as ash. As a dutiful library monitor, I participated in this literature genocide (if there is such a thing!). One book caught my attention: "The Adventures of the Black Hand Gang". Disobeying the rules, contradicting my library mandate and risking a slice of the strap, I saved the Black Hand Gang from Fahrenheit 451. That was 1980. Today (2003) I use "The Adventures of the Black Hand Gang" as an 'entering into the mystery' resources for my Year 8 Religion Classes. These thirsty teenagers covert the opportunity, as I did all those years ago. But, this time, there will be no potential fiery end. The mystery goes on.

Review: god, how can i describe my love for this book? i wish they would reissue it so i could buy a new copy.

i bought this book when i was 10 and i still have it (i am 30 now) and it's tattered and yellow from age and use but whenever i want to have a fun, quick read, i pick this book up. i love the visual clues and the four stories are great. the illustrations are fantastic! i think my favorite story is the third one involving the jewelry.

i tried to set up a black-hand gang when i was a child but to avail. i wish that there were more volumes of their adventures, but alas, we'll have to make do with this one.

Review: I remember the Adventures of the Black Hand Gang very fondly. The characters were fun and easy for me to relate to as a ten year old when I first read the book. A group of kids solving mysteries -- it's a formula that's worked in many other children's books, but the Black Hand Gang is unique in its method. You read the story, and then look at the detailed illustrations searching for clues to solve each page's riddle. Then you flip the page for the answer and the adventure continues. I've been reading the Harry Potter series and it made me think about all the great books that sparked my imagination growing up -- and the Adventures of the Black Hand Gang was definitely one of them. I'm sorry to see it out of print. I was also hoping that maybe there were further adventures of the Gang. Maybe someone will wise up and continue their stories for a whole new generation.

Review: I've had this book since I was a kid too and like some of the reviewers, I gave this book to my son to read. He enjoyed it as well. I was hoping to find other books like this one.
