Rating: Summary: A Modern Day Classic. Review: Here is a story that was tailor-made to become a Disney Cartoon. Follow Jay, a runaway orphan, as he follows his destiny to save the Gingerbread King. Much like the Wizard of Oz, our hero will be joined by others on his quest, such as a man made of taffy, a sugarplum fairie, and even a kind & gentle spider. Together, they face the evil Queen Beatrice and her Army of Stingers, a platoon of ants, and the threat of Lord Vermin & the Rat Pack. The heroes will also learn morals and about themselves through their experiences. I'm happy to say that this is accomplished without getting too preachy. I would also like to say that I was quite pleased with the surprise twists that made the grand finale quite exciting. The artwork (1 picture per chapter) leaps off the page. The character designs are worthy of being memorialized on the silver screen. Harry Bauer has done an excellent job at bringing these characters to life. Do yourself a favor and pick this book up! It is for the reading ages of 8 & up, but I've found that anyone with even the slightest bit of imagination absolutely loves this book.

Rating: Summary: A wonderful introduction to fantasy literature!! Review: I do book and game reviews for a game review magazine. I have read a lot of books that are suppose to be for young readers and to be honest miss the mark. This is the perfect book to get your children into reading. Gary McKenzie has created a world of wonder, courage, humor and adventure. The story follows the adventures of an orphan named Jay through a strange new land of magical creatures and twisting landscapes. There he meets new friends and over comes great obstacles. As he learns about friendship, courage, and inner strength so too will your children. It's had to find good books like this these days. Not only will you kids love to read this book but so will you! This is a gem and instant classic!
