Summary: Fun and fantasy for all ages
Review: I first read this book as a child and was utterly captivated. The book is full of magic, humor and adventure; what more could a kid want? The characters were truly interesting and so it wasn't surprising that now, at least 25 years after I found the book, I learned that my friends' kids also enjoyed it.

Re-reading it as an adult, I still thought it a pretty good story although not sophisticated by any means. However is was full of good clean fun with the age-old good vs. evil story.

I heartily recommend this book to everyone that likes a good read, whatever their age.

Summary: Wonderful fantasy!
Review: One of the best children's fantasies!! Evil witches, kidnapped prince, mysterious jester, boy who doesn't know his own past - it's all great!

Summary: Still Fun After All These Years
Review: Several years ago, I spent some time and a great deal of money tracking down a copy of the first edition of this book. Re-reading (as an adult) revealed a solidly entertaining children's book with only one of two distracting "clunkers." As is so frequently the case in older (as in, "published some time ago") children's books, the little girl character is just plain irritating. In addition, the author (and her editor, as well) suffers a brief but serious lapse in judgment in a paragraph where she has two characters engage in a silent dialogue which is spelled out verbatim even though it is conveyed only by the characters' contemptuous looks at each other as they pass on the road. However, these flaws are more than outweighed by the satisfying story and the characters of the two jesters, who are as brave and loyal as any of a hundred other adult "protector/savior" characters in children's fantasy, but without the humorlessness that usually goes with the hero's role. The author does a wonderful job of engaging the reader emotionally, as well. This is a fine fantasy book for kids 9 and up.

Summary: A Page Turner all the way to the end!
Review: This book follows Taash, an orphan who is taken away from his abusive foster parent and given to a "witch and her friend." As the book goes on, he meets Kashka and Piff, two twin cousin jesters who don't see each other that much. THen, he sees some witches trying to curse a small baby. He instinctively grabs the baby away and saves the baby's life.

As it turns out, the baby is a prince. Taash and his new friends, one of which is PIff, set out to return the baby to his parents, the king and queen whom Kashka and Piff serve. The only catch is that there is a gang of dangerous witches who want the baby too. When they finally get to the palace, Taash learns who he is, just as the witches strike.

THis book is great and I'm not going to tell you how it ends. IT's a real surprise. THis book is the best...I would and do read it over and over agian. I recommend it for all fantasy readers. THey will really enjoy it.
