Summary: A Pleasant Read for both Children and their Adults
Review: This book has several stories about the summer solstice from different parts of the world told in simple language. There are science and just for fun projects ranging from showing how and why the solstice occurs astronomically to cooking with the sun's heat and making decorations. The drawings are bright and cheerful. If a little loose and lacking in detail for my own taste, I suspect that makes them more accessible to their intended audience. The Summer Solstice can be read and used alone by the age group it is rated for, nine to twelve, yet is fun for an adult working with a younger group down to perhaps age six.
