Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: For someone who owns a zillion Bibles (me!), this bible was a pleasant surprise. It is beautifully presented in a lovely violet print. And the content has been thoughtfully arranged for the reader to get the most out of every page. The Book Introductions and Study Notes are insightful in a way only a woman would appreciate! For instance, I really enjoyed the comparison of God the Creator in Genesis 1 to a woman bringing order to her household. This work is sprinkled with fresh insights throughout. The 80 Character Sketches of Women in the Bible far outweigh the cost of "another" Bible and to top it off this work presents 52 Bible Studies that are rich with originality and worth every moment of your time to complete. The Book also includes Quotes from all sorts of women including the fantastic Women of Faith conference speakers. And, yes, there are the requisite concordance, maps and column reference system. Because I love to take copious notes I found the wide margins especially appealing. Frankly I have not found one thing in or about this Bible that displeases me. I shall enjoy ruminating about its pages for months to come! In case you aren't sold on this book yet, you should know that a portion of the purchase price goes to International Bible Society to help spread the gospel of Jesus around the world...AMEN!!!!

Rating: Summary: Excellent bible Review: I am glad I got this Bible. Every thing about it is purple. I got the bonded leather. It has a purple cover, print and ribbon. The layout is interesting. On the outside of the page is the comments, the next section is the text of the NIV and on the inner part of the page towards the centre binding are the cross-references. Because the comments are not always long, there are sections under the comments where you can write notes of your own if you want to....spaces are often 3 inches wide by 4-5 inches high. The profiles are excellent, and the comments are spot-on. If you want a doctrine type bible this isn't what you want, but if you want the text to be applicable to you then get it. The 52 weeks studies are both practible and informative. I like the personal touch this bible has for women. There are thought-provoking notes, studies and profiles that make you think about your life in Christ and how you can be better. It is just so woman-oriented that I just want to go back time and again to read the Word of God. You will enjoy it I'm sure.
Rating: Summary: Great Study Bible Review: I bought this for my girlfriend and have gotten to flip through it. I think the NIV translation is the best. This bible has great features and is great just as a study bible but is even better having inserted little passages that relate the scriptures to women.
Rating: Summary: a gem in the sea of women-themed bibles Review: I decided to expand my bible resources to include a women' thematic bible, for although I am a wife and mother, it wasn't an area that I fed (being that I chose to look at leadership-themed sources to develop my personal accountability skills). I purchased several bibles, including "Woman, Thou Art Loosed", "the Women's Life Bible" (both NKJV ) and the NIV Women's Devotional bible. Although I have not attended a Women of Faith rally, I chose to keep this bible (and give away the aforementioned women's bibles to other Christian sisters) because: 1)even-handed notation. It struck me how culturally sensitive the notes were, which helped me think back to those times 1000s of years ago. These opened my eyes to embrace many issues. 2)no glib/rote responses to complex life issues. The other bibles attempted to do that, and while such notation may offer comfort to some, they don't work well for me. For example, I don't want a short paragraph to understand that our Lord wants me to be patient in my marriage. This bible does not offer patronizing and "Precious Moments"-type cutsey notes. Subjects like patience for marriage are supported throughout the bible via different wife stories, and are delved upon in the notations, which I much rather preferred. 3)sober looks at women in the bible, from the famous, like Mary, to the not so famous like Jael. Also, the explanations of the women in Jesus' line are equally even-handed.All in all, its the best women's themed study bible that I have come across yet. It is spiritually, emotionally and mentally inspiring. Note of criticism: the concordance/topical index is sparse for a study bible, especially since the notations throughout are so good and thoughtful.
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners Review: I have been reading the bible for a while and I got this one as a gift. It has a lot of inspirational quotes and some scripture in the margins. Only half the page is the actual text of the Bible. The opening descriptions of the books are not very helpful but I like them to include the jist of the book. It's very womenly and talks about different famous women. It's colorful and with pictures of women and flowers. The subject guide in the back only has page numbers for subjects.
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners Review: I saw this bible on the shelf at a local religious bookstore. It caught my eye, when I wasn't looking for a bible. I leafed through it and was immediately entranced by the center-page text in blue, the simple but not stupid notes that really offered me new perspectives (I've been "into" scripture for decades now), and the prayerful but not sappy tone throughout. For women who want a comfortable bible fit that will still challenge, this is the bible. For women who want a bible they will actually pick up and read and use, it is for you. A previous reviewer mentioned purple leather. I'd love to get one of those, Amazon!!! I, too, love purple. The one I bought is great, though, and as it was a bit shelf-worn, I asked for and was given a discount.

Rating: Summary: It's got everything I wanted in a Bible... Review: I'm always fascinated by studies of Biblical women, so this Bible has been good with its little "snapshots" of interesting women in the Bible. There are study notes on each page which, for the most part, you've probably already heard somewhere else, but now and again they surprise you. There's cross-references and tons of space in the margin to scribble your own thoughts down. (That's one of the best parts!). The weekly studies are well-written and thought-provoking, but even though they are "weekly" studies they are not structured like that.
Rating: Summary: A Gift for Women Review: My best purchase ever! I really had trouble with the chuch and women's issues, and finding this Bible helped to bring women upfront . All the women in the Bible are pointed out and there are relevant studies around them. I think women are more than capable of being leaders within the church. Young girls and women, need women role models to look up to. I also recommend 52 women of the bible devotional.
