Rating: Summary: As a text book this is barely adequate. Review: This author delivers the history of the Old Testament in a dry, boring and dull manner. I found myself refering to other reference materials to fill in the blanks. You will find that this edition is poorly edited, with many examples of missing punctution marks. As a text book for a college level class, this book will be found wanting. If you are just looking for something to read in bed at night, this certainly will work as well as Nytol.
Rating: Summary: As a text book this is barely adequate. Review: This is a truely great book. I have used it as the text for two college courses through seperate institutions and found it to be very rewarding. The author is a brilliant individual who teaches with this book on a regular basis at colleges and universities throughout the United States. This book is a must if one is studying major prophets of the Old Testament or Old Testament history.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding Overview of OT Review: This was preparatory text along with the OT for my OT qualifying test for seminary. I liked it then for its simplicity, yet deep theology, and still turn to it,and recommend it for my laypeople who want to understand the context of the OT books.Once one receives the historical bearings, the OT starts to come alive and is so wonderful to study. This book started me down that course, and thus I am grateful. Time spent with this book coupled with OT reading will be fruitful.
