Summary: But we need myths...
Review: Part of the Anchor Bible series, a collection of translations and commentaries on individual books of the Bible by Jewish, Protestant and Catholic scholars. The quality and approach of the volumes vary widely. This particular book is written from a rather secular world view: Levine makes an attempt to demythologize the text wherever possible. I'm not certain I like that approach. I have yet to find anything gained from the demythologization process. People need myths.
