Summary: A fascinating meeting of science and Scripture.
Review: I thank Lavoie for sharing his meaningful reflections on the Shroud's connections to St. John's Gospel and the Book of Daniel. To Lavoie's interpretations, I would add the Transfiguration and the elevation of the Eucharist at Mass. In many ways complementary to Mary & Alan Whanger's book - The Shroud of Turin - An Adventure of Discovery. I highly recommend this book to others curious about the Shroud.

Summary: Some parts of this book are good but others show poor logic.
Review: I wasn't the least bit interested in the Shroud of Turin until a few months ago when I met a family member of Dr. Lavoie's on an airplane. She told me about the book and it sounded interesting. I bought the book from amazon.com, read the first chapter, and was amazed. Whether you believe in Jesus Christ or not this is a very fascinating book. Two thoughts come to mind now that I've read it. Number one, I wish I had been able to work with Dr. Lavoie as he researched the Shroud of Turin. He must have had a blast. Second, his findings were fascinating. I don't know how anyone can dispute them. He left no stone unturned in his research. This is by no means a "dry" scientific book. It's like reading a good mystery...only better. It's for real.

Summary: Interesting Combination of Science and Scripture
Review: If you're just starting to learn about the Shroud, Lavoie's work is not where I would recommend starting. Nevertheless, his fairly unique interpretation of Scripture makes the book stand out.

The book is worth the read for Chapter 11 alone. While I can't say I was wholly convinced that Lavoie's analysis was reasonable, the mental exercise of inserting the Shroud into John's Gospel is stimulating.

There are plenty of arguments for the authenticity of the Shroud, and Lavoie touches on many of them. The medical/forensic approach is worthwhile and competent. I would say that the "Carbon Dating" section has been overtaken by more recent research (also supporting authenticity).

The book is engaging, and written in a revelatory style that seems particularly appropriate to the long and complex story of the Shroud.

Summary: This book makes me study the Word of God
Review: Thinking about the "Son of the Man" and about something more important than the Resurrection, starting with the Shroud of Turin, this and discovering important facts about Jesus and the Shroud, is possible with the lecture of this book. The Shroud made the author study the Word of God, and the author?s book makes me study the Word of God. Therefore this book is absolutely good for me.

Summary: It's not THAT unlocked !
Review: This book gives a lot of valuable information on the history and studies concerning the shroud of Turin. The author, being a doctor, focuses his book on conclusions which can be drawn from a medical point of view, but he also discribes other scientific studies. I'ts a stunnishing book, but I guess any book on this subject would greatly affect one's perspective of reality. Despite the title, no explanation whatsoever is given about how the picture itself was created, so certainly not all the mystery is solved.

Summary: Many questions answered
Review: Unlocking the Secrets of the Shroud is well written. A broad range of scientific and medical evidence is examined in depth. Facts are presented concisely. The logic is well thought out, methodical, and thorough. The book is written as a first person narrative. Despite the complexity of the material it reads easily and is entertaining. There is little religion interjected except that of interesting historical relevance to the material evidence. I found most of the criticisms written in other reviews to be unfounded.
