Rating: Summary: Salvation and Reward Review: I own 16 commentaries on Hebrews by different authors. Not one of the others measures up to this one for insight, clarity, and truth.I only loan one commentary on Hebrews out, this one by M.R DeHaan. Loaning out the others when I have this one would be a disservice to my friends. I bought three copies of it so I could loan it out to several people at once. During my stay at Mulnomah Seminary, I placed my extra copies in the library so other students could check them out. This is the only commentary (of any Bible book) I have purchased for the book table for the youth group at my church. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is the only commentary on Hebrews I would recommend to anyone, ever. It is that much better than the rest. If you want to really understand the Book of Hebrews, particularly chapters 2, 6, and 10, buy this book. Don't waste your time elsewhere. You will find no better or clearer exegesis of the Book of Hebrews than that in these pages by M.R. DeHaan, M.D.

Rating: Summary: Salvation and Reward Review: Several years ago I listened to a sermon on the reward that each believer will receive in heaven for their works on earth. On most points, the pastor was scripturally accurate, but, unfortunately, most in attendance believed that heaven was a democracy where all are equal before the throne of God and what they heard from this sermon was that all are unequal. Oh, how I wish the pastor had read M.R. Dehaan's book on Hebrews before he preached. Dr. Dehaan thoroughly explains the difference between salvation and reward, which are two separate blessings from God. He explains that our salvation through Christ does make us equal in being justified before God. The assurance of this promise is the same for all who believe it. What is different for each of us is the reward we will receive for our efforts in working out our salvation. How we spend our time, our talents and our resources during this short pilgrimage on earth will be taken into account by Christ when we all, believer and unbeliever, appear before Him. Many verses in scripture on reward, obedience, judgement and sanctification that over the years have been twisted or misinterpreted by man are examined and explained in light of the fact, and with thorough scriptural support, that the Book of Hebrews was written to believers. Dr. Dehaan's clear and concise understanding of scripture is not only enlightening but should spur readers into an ever deeper study of Gods Word.
