Rating: Summary: Anglican Evangelicals in Perspective. Review: Have you ever wondered where Anglican Evangelicalism comes from? Here's the answer. Roger Steer's book gives an historical overview of the Evangelical movement from its roots in the Reformation through the great revival of the Wesleys and Whitefield to the situation today. It even takes a look at what the future may hold for Evangelicals. The only weakness of the book is its failure to talk about Bishop Meade and the antebellum Diocese of Virginia which was the core of the older sort of Evangelicalism in the USA. Otherwise it is an excellent and informative survey of Anglican Evangelicalism in the USA and England.
Rating: Summary: Thorough overview of Anglican Evangelicalism. Review: This is a good book, but the title is somewhat misleading. One thinks the book is going to be about Stott, Packer & McGrath, whereas it is a history of the Evangelical wing of Anglicanism from the pre-Reformation period to the present. Covers a lot of ground some of which is repetitive, but provides a solid overview of the topic. The section on Lambeth & sexuality questions is especially good.
