Summary: Old School Review
Review: Looking around the local Christian bookstore, I wanted a solid commentary on Thessalonians and I did indeed get that. While I read the King James version of the Bible as a kid, I now use the NIV version, so it was a little odd to read the NIV scripture and receive the commentary based on the KJV text, but in a way, it was a good experience. Dr. McGee is solid on his knowledge and views but he's definitely "old school." Not that I can with certainty state what "new school" is, it was obvious that Dr McGee was raised in a different time... In fact, I believe he was born in the early 1900's and passed away in the late eighties. He wrote and spoke like a "grumpy old man" but he was right on the mark at all times. Unfortunately, he spoke with great disdain and frustration on the "current times" (1970-1980's) and I'm certain he would be even more so in today's current state of society (or lack thereof). While this style of commentary was educational and biblically accurate, I think I will be looking for a more modern (albeit, NOT a watered down version) intrepetation/commentary for future studies... Probably something from the Bruce & Stan series...
