Summary: Good Book for the Most Part but Possibly a Key Missing
Review: I found this book quite interesting. The author has some good answers to the questions and he does a tremendous job of defending the Pre-Tribulation Rapture. I strongly disagree, however, that the United States is Babylon in Revelation 18. The author needs to scrap that thinking.

Review: Jack Van Impe needs to read Marvin Rosenthal's-Pre-Wrath Rapture, and he also needs to drop the 13 confederation philosophy, this is not a theory because theory requires fact. 10 plus 1 with 3 dropped can never add up to 13..... and thats a fact!

Review: Jack Van Impe's 'The Great Escape' lays out the plan of avoiding the tribulation. I don't understand why other reviews give this such a negative rating. I guess my question is: Do they believe if there is such a thing? If this is the case then the words of Jesus Christ are all in vain.

What if it did happen? Then what would you do in the meantime? What if there wasn't a Heaven or Hell? I wouldn't want to find out the latter, if I missed Heaven and was destinied for Hell. But we all have a choice to make in this life. It's the one greatest and most important decision we'll make in our lifetime. It's a choice we'll make for eternity. I do respect the Van Impe's work as do I for Billy Graham, D. James Kennedy and Hal Lindsey. They all agree on one thing that they do believe by their faith in Jesus Christ that He is returning to this earth some day soon. I'm always fascinated by this subject. How the scriptures and current events are merging together to bring about this end time event. As we all can see what is happening in the world today with all the violence, immorality and turmoil plaguing the planet is a sign that the end is near. You can only read for yourself not just this source but you can also compare others as well. My suggetion is read Van Impe's 'Israel's Final Holocaust', D. James Kennedy's 'Why Was America Attacked?' and Hal Lindsey's 'The Final Battle.' If these don't convince you then nothing else will. My hope is that you will seek the Lord and He will reveal it to you. That is if you believe?

Summary: The Fake Escape
Review: Many has considered Jack Van Impe to be "the walking Bible," and I cannot help but say that from time to time I have been impressed by his work and I consider his intentions to be honorable. In many of Van Impe's works, as opposed to those of other pre-tribulationists, I believe he truly wants to see people saved, albeit in a very "don't miss the rapture" fashion.

The Great Escape, of course, details much of Van Impe's research into the pre-tribulation rapture and the defense that he gives for it. This book is written in an easy to follow, question and answer format, which will no doubt be of benefit to the reader, regardless of his rapture position. But this is probably the only strong suit of the book.

Van Impe's The Great Escape is not written in "attack mode" (like Tim LaHaye's Rapture Under Attack), but it is very dogmatic. Much of the author's scholarship is unfortunately based on antiquated KJV renderings and I did not see very much, if any serious Hebrew or Greek exegesis. Unfortunately for Van Impe, many of the statements made in this book can be easily refuted and post-tribulationists will gain much insight in seeing how weak pre-trib arguments truly are.

Jack Van Impe also takes some extreme liberties in this work. He assume his readers are familiar with "dispensationalism" and are well versed in the pre- versus post-trib rapture debate. Above all, Van Impe also falsely claims that the Jewish people are the only Israelites on Earth, ignoring the two-house truth of Judah and Ephraim and accusing anyone who "tries to make 'Jews'" (for his purposes, Israelites) out of Believers into cultists. (Consutlt Batya Wootten's book "Who Is Israel?" for more info on the two houses of Israel ....

For the post-trib apologist The Great Escape is an excellent tool for understanding what arguments need to be countered to expose the fake escape, the pre-tribulation rapture, for what it is.
