Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A Well Written Survey
Review: In this book, Dr Heron sets out to help us understand the Holy Spirit. He notes in the introduction the difficulty of this task and notes that the book focuses "only indirectly on the reality" of the Spirit.

What he does then, is take a brisk but scholarly jaunt through the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments helping us to see the development of the people's understanding of this most difficult to pin down part of the reality that is God. He discusses translation and the impact of the words used - in the Biblical languages and today - in our understanding of the Spirit. He looks at the variety of experience of the Spirit.

As the book continues Dr. Heron looks at the writings of several theologians through the history of Christian thought and on into the issues of recent years. Throughout, the book is readable and helpful. He writes as a scholar and a man of faith. I had the privilege of taking a course from Dr. Heron in seminary and am delighted to find the same insightful and intellectually stimulating presence here.
