Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A MUST for anyone interested in the Bible
Review: Nothing short of a "just the facts" primer to the Bible. Rather than a commentary, this is just as the title suggests, an owners manual. Great for those trying to figure out which Bible to buy. Explains the historical development of the English translations. Breaks down the "parts" of the bible and explains the various types of footnotes and cross references to be found. Explains the different types of bibles available and how each is suited for a prarticular purpose. Very fair and objective when refering to different schools of thought and denominational differences. Scholarly but practicle for the layman. Too bad this is out of print. I consider it essential to any decision making about which Bible to use and for what purpose.
