Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Sometimes engaging but mostly disappointing
Review: While this book can be engaging at times as it searches the psyche of women who are in the process of becomeing sisters or nuns (for the uninitiated, there is a difference), it also leaves something to be desired.

My main problem is that the book is written entirely from the perspective of religious life in the Anglican Church, which is a very small subset of religious life, indeed. It really needs to be made apparent in the advertising that this is not Roman Catholic religious life being discussed. The entire sense of having a call when it comes to a religious vocation seems to be very different in the Anglican Church. Most of the women I know who are entering religious life are Roman Catholic, and we all agree that the sense of call is a mystery that we cannot entirely fathom. Most of the women in this book will negate that idea.

While I found the book interesting, I was very disappointed that it did give a picture of such a small part of religious life in the world. It's an interesting read, but if you are Catholic and discerning religious life, you will be profoundly disappointed.
