Review: Lowell Handy provides a brief, readable overview of the Christian scriptures without making the assumption that the reader has prior knowledge of scripture. He favors a historical-critical approach that liberal and moderate mainline Christians will find consistent with their theological leanings. Evangelical and fundamentalists Christians may find his approach somewhat difficult. However, Handy does provide new Bible students with the necessary language and perspective to begin a critical study of scripture.
