Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Not for Professionals Only
Review: Ten years in the making, this book is the first one to describe pastoral care and counseling from a Quaker perspective. The authors of the various chapters are pastors, pastoral counselors, family therapists, social workers, among others, all of whom do their work from a spiritual, Quaker grounding. The title comes from the way in which Quakers often find God in the silence. From this "silent center" pastoral care flows out and returns.

For those unfamiliar with the beliefs and practices of Friends, a brief introduction will provide guidance. As you read further, you may be moved by the stories, informed by the ways our faith and our work can intersect, surprised at the courage and love expressed by highly trained persons, and inspired to think about your own vocation.

Summary: Not for Professionals Only
Review: What a wonderful book for professionals and lay persons, as well. Each chapter gives one Counselor's perspective of the impact Quaker practice has had on their work as a Pastoral Care provider. I used it as a perfect way to end my day over the period of a couple of weeks. Whether you are interested in Pastoral Care, or are a Friend interested in how our Religion is relevant in today's world, this book is a welcome addition to available literature.
