Rating: Summary: pure eye candy Review: i saw this at borders and immediately had to have it! the art was just stunning! it shows a great range of the different styles of manga there are. it's not just big eyes and big [breasts]! the art ranged from the typical anime cutesy style to semi-realistic to really unique 'pop art' style. the only prob is that this book claims to teach u how to draw manga, when it really doesn't. they give some short step-by-steps of how the artist colors and what materials are used, but not much else. the tutorials were a lil hard to understand, esp the cg tutorials (but i don't do a lot of cg, so it might just be me). otherwise, if u just wanna look at some really gorgeous, unique artwork, then get this book. your eyes will thank you for it. ^^
Rating: Summary: Great book...a must have Review: This book allows you see the awesome pictures of Japan's artist and see how they do a picture step by step,The steps are simple and i think anyone could do it. I recommend it if your an amurture artist or pro. Also wanted to say the pictures in this book are beautiful and shouldnt be missed, great book to have on the shelf! I havent found one like it yet!
Rating: Summary: A great resource for more advanced artists. Review: This book is a complilation of translated excerpts from the Japanese magazine "Comickers", which profiles professional artists and their individual illustration techniques. The tutorials, however, are obviously intended for more advanced artists. If one does not have a basic understanding of most traditional and CG mediums, they will probably be lost. I wouldn't reccomend this to the crowd that is still working on mastering the techniques they've learned in books like the "How To Draw Manga" series, because the majority of those books cover only the most basic stuff. Then again, the color illustrations in this book are worth the price itself, especially if you want to learn about some artists that you've probably never heard of before. Also, the English title of this book is a little misleading... most of the artists in this book do not draw manga for a living, and this book teaches you nothings about drawing comics (or animation, for that matter). This book is all about color illustration, in what might be called a "manga style". That said, this is a great book for anyone interested in art. Many of the artists profiled have unique and interesting techniques, and I had a lot of fun reading about how they created their works.

Rating: Summary: Excellent for expanding your skills Review: This book should be called "How to color like japanese artists". This book is VERY short and mostly very beautiful images. It is NOT NOT for newbies. This book is for people who know how to draw and color different mediums and want to refine their techniques or pick up new tricks. The multiple artists have very varied techniques in coloring via photoshop, painter, illustrator, watercolor, copic marker. These are NOT in depth tutorials. It is VERY useful if you want to compare your style to other artists and get inspiration.
Rating: Summary: Definately a keeper Review: This is great for the artist who already has a working knowledge of their own style, but needs a little help and inspiration to get their coloring and composition techniques down. Instead of trying to shove formulaic anime style down my throat, it exposed me to fourteen distinct styles and let me see the process of these artists, instead of urging me to draw and color exactly like them. It's only flaw is it assumes the reader already has a working knowledge of artist tools and programs - but it was probably aimed towards a serious student of art, not people that need help learning how big to make their anime-eyes, or how their cat girls should look. Oh, and another plus-side: No cat girls. Thank you!
