Rating: Summary: A beautiful book on photography/ Review: This is a beautiful book, full of wonderful color photos. It excited me enough that I couldn't wait to take my new digital camera out and begin shooting. After reading a few pages, I knew I could take pictures like this if I applied the information in the book. The author provides just enough information about photography that you understand exactly how to use each of the techniques to create good pictures on your own.I loved the chapter on close-up photography. My wife collects Lladro porcelain, and while I don't appreciate the pieces quite as much as she does, I think they make incredible photographic subjects. I used the tips on lighting and selective focus to take some very good pictures of some of the better figures in her collection. I also thought this chapter helped me with my eBay photography: there's even a special section on how to shoot close-ups for on-line auction photos, and that helped a lot. But most of all I liked the color pictures. There was a color photo on nearly every page. So many of the digital photography books try and get away with black and white illustrations. Who shoots in black and white anymore? I don't. I use my digital camera for color pictures, and I want to see examples in color, too. This book gave me that. I didn't know much about photography before I bought this book, so I learned a lot. I am very happy with it feel that it will help anyone who wants to become a better digital photographer.
Rating: Summary: Best Digital Photography Book on the Market! Review: This is a gorgeous book, full of inspiring color photos and great techniques. I like the approach, I like the content, and I like what I've learned from reading it. There are a ton of digital photography books out there, but this one is by far the best. Many of the digital photography books I've seen either don't have enough about real photography (and emphasize the gadgetry instead) or seem as if they are ordinary photography books with "digital" inserted here and there. This one covers photography in depth, but also pays a great deal of attention to the special needs of digital cameras. For example, the author explains the problems we encounter with shutter lag when taking sports pictures, then clearly shows how to overcome those problems using a couple tricks he developed. That section is worth the price of the book alone! He also explains why digital cameras collect more image "noise" with long exposures or with higher ISO ratings, and uses his own fireworks pictures to show what can be done. There's a trick in there about taking a "blank" picture at a high ISO setting, and then using it as a "filter" to cancel out noise that I haven't seen anywhere else. This is the first digital photography book I've seen that not only covers ways to use multiple lights with a digital camera to achieve professional-looking lighting effects, but includes all the lighting diagrams you need to position those lights for broad-lighting, short-lighting, glamour effects, and other setups. Why aren't other books this complete? I think this book is suitable for beginners and intermediate photographers, because the techniques shown are professional in quality, yet still explained in an easy to grasp way. Even veteran photographers are likely to pick up a few tips. All in all, an excellent book that I recommend highly.
Rating: Summary: Ok books, Jack of all trades and master of none. Review: This is not a bad book. But it only gets 3 stars because it never really get in depth to anythings. Harldy what I'd expect from a book about 'mastering' anything. However what it amounts to is a slight verbose form of some really good tips on shooting various subjects. Sports, macro,portrait- the author shares with you his 'best practices'for these and that makes a good book to have on the shelf.
