Summary: Who needs this book and how they can use it.
Review: After you learn to operate a word processing or page layout software package, this is the next book to buy. It will be a constant resource, a place to launch from as you design publications. Plus you'll be growing during the production process. The first half of the book was written as a reference to general information about type faces, headline and body type, and getting files set up correctly. The second half was written for learning as you produce. If you need a "quick fix," you can open to a specific kind of publication such as a brochure or manual and either use the set of page size, type sizes and layouts that will give you a successful publication. If you want room for creativity but need a starting point or range of possibilities for those same publications, that information is also include. Nine samples of each publication and a total of four hundred illustrations reinforce the information. About the research: The research for this book took three years. I measured at least 100 samples of each type of publication to get a range of commonly used sizes, page layouts, etc. It also included interviewing about fifty experts to validate the information. But most important, it included the answers to the most commonly asked questions that I have answered for beginners who want to do a good job for the corporate and non-profit organizations.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great book, comprehensive and easy to follow
Review: As a student of desktop publishing I can only say I wish I had found this book sooner; it would have made things a lot easier. With this book, you will need no other on this subject.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must have for desktop publishers!
Review: This is an excellent reference manual that supports both the beginner and the more advanced desktop publisher. The layout of the book is particularly helpful in locating materials for specific projects. I can easily find examples of a publication type to use for a reference. I also never realized the importance of choosing the correct paper. This chapter was very enlightening. As a new web designer, I found the information regarding design levels especially useful. This book will be on my reference shelf for a long time.
