Summary: The title of this book is WRONG!!
Review: I just wanted to warn people who plan on purchasing this book that the official title of this book is "Notes on Graphic Desing and Visual COMMUNICATION" instead of what is advertised. It is basically the same book as the one published in 1983, but I didn't know that and ordered it thinking it was new material.

This book consists of the compiled notes from Gregg Berryman's lectures to his beginning design students and does a good job of introducing the basics. It covers the history of graphic design, logo design, type, and layout in a very succinct manner. Don't be fooled by it's thinness...it's pretty dense.

Instructors: Be warned--Berryman is a strong advocate of the grid!

Summary: Everything you want to know about design in 45 pages or less
Review: I picked this book up in 1979 as an aspiring advertising copywriter who wanted to know more about graphic design. Now, after 20 years in the advertising business, as both a creative director and agency owner, I still refer novice ad writers and art directors to this wonderful overview. I simply can't believe how much easy-to-understand info is condensed into so few pages. My bravos and acknowledgements to Berryman.

Summary: Graphic Design 101
Review: Notes on Graphic Design and Visual Communication is the most essential graphic design book written. Despite being very thin in quantity of pages, this book holds an enormous amount of graphic knowledge. I am currently studying Industrial Design and was refered to this book by a professor to help me with my graphic design knowledge. It opened the world of graphics up to me in an easy to read, fun package. The only complaint I`ve heard of this book is the font used for text. This book has a hand written font which can sometimes be hard to read. I have had no problems with the font however.

Summary: Berryman does it again!
Review: You couldn't hope to get more useful information from a 460 page book than you do from this thin 46 page book. I learned 90% of what I was taught in 5 separate design classes within this single tiny book. It's a must-have for all beginning, and even expert, designers!
