Summary: Good start to lear web usability!
Review: As a web designer (with 4 years of experience), i had a pretty good idea of how to make effective and good looking websites... A least, that's what i thought! This book puted terms on my ideas and made me look (and think) beyond the vision i had. I simply discover that i had a lot to learn and this could lead me to a new career. I defenitively recommend this book to any people involved in web (or other multimedia project) development.

This book did make me think... a lot more than i expected! Thanks Mr. Black for sharing all this experience throughout a well designed and illustrated book. I'll keep it presiously!

Summary: Not for those with experience
Review: While this book might be good for web design newbies, it's definitely not for those with any experience. It does do a good job of covering the basics of web page design, which is useful for new designers. Experienced designers will be disappointed, however, because that's where it ends

Summary: This book is a true gem
Review: I really loved to read this book. It is such a joy in every respect. It is at the same time easy to read and intelligent. It has things to say of tremendous value. It has a beautiful lay out and design. It has only necessary words. It is short and full of contents.

A must for every one having somehow to do with the creation of the web and for everyone who just wants to have a good time reading.

Summary: Simply Brilliant.
Review: If you have anything to do with web design, and you could only buy one book, this is the one to get... Sometimes it helps to have someone point out the obvious. Steve does it with humor and style.

Summary: Common sense and humour - a great book!
Review: A very good and truly common sense guide to the all-important subject of usability. The author has good humour, and a good sense for the essential things. This is not a 1000-page bible, but a 200-page full-color guide for you and me, that you will 1. understand perfectly, 2. enjoy reading, 3. remember every time you see (or design) a website. It has the essentials laid down without any unnecessary funfair.

I enjoyed it very much and I think I would send one to a couple of very experienced web designers who just don't "get" that websites are designed for real people to be used in everyday life and not to be some sort of experimental work of art that noone has access to. Great job, Mr. Krug!

Summary: Every web project should have a Steve Krug!
Review: "Don't Make Me Think", make my job or task effortless, let me blissfully cruise through your web site buy whatever it is you are selling, or take the next step toward a commercial exchange. That, in essence, is the focus of the book.

Others have labeled this book basic, "for beginners"; it is a simple message, but think about the sites you frequent, doesn't the title sum up your experiences there?

In much the same way Roy Williams gives the number crunchers of advertising a reality check in "The Wizard of Ads", Steve Krug does with web site usability. The book is fluid easy reading. It provides suggestions for usability testing on a budget, and quick, simple, usability ideas for those who may have become bogged down in the latest technology and bloated design.

Large-scale site development requires solid information architecture, layout, and design. This book is no substitute for that process, but it masterfully delivers on what it claims to be - "A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability"

Summary: A good book expanding on a good idea!
Review: Want to know why people make fun at other Web pages? Why there ARE lists of the most ugly Web pages, most useless Web sites and the most confusing Web pages on the Web? Sounds pretty funny until someone puts your Web site on that list. This book answers any of your concerns you might get of having your Web site being labeled ugly, useless or confusing.

Mr. Krug provides useful insight into the mental process going on in a user's head. It explains the best way to display information. It points out what doesn't work, but more importantly how it doesn't work and what would work better. It is written very well and is full of insight, wisdom, and personality.

It's a good book expanding on a good idea. This book is aimed at beginners because there are no HTML or script examples. And it is not a Web publishing or HTML programming book. The book deals with pure usability issues that every programmer, developer, Web designer, project manager or anyone else creating a Web site should know. The book clearly explains what is needed to make good decisions about creating a usable Web site that people want to visit.

It's a joy to read, and was comforting to me. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I have.

Summary: To the point
Review: I am working on a research project that involves web site usability and I thought this book was very informative. They get right to the point .. with both positive and negative examples for their different usability issues. No long drawn out explanations .. just what works and what doesn't. I am currently reading one of Jacob Nielsen's books, and although he also makes many good points about the same things .. he takes longer to do it. Although I find his biweekly column to be necessary reading for web design, Nielsen seems a little more opinionated and full of himself. When reading this book by Krug, I felt like this was someone who was more in touch with the real people because he was a real person .. rather than because he had done multiple studies and surveys. The author has a sense of humor and treats his subject light enough that you don't fall asleep trying to wade through the intensity.

I would recommend that all web designers read some book on usability before taking on their first (or next) project. This one is fairly easy reading, while still making a lot of good points.
