Summary: Can't Go Wrong With This!
Review: Great book at at great price. Easily learn from the ground up.
I learned more about the program in one day reading than a month trying to mess around on my own.

Summary: Great stuff!
Review: I agree, this book should come with Dreamweaver. A phenomenal resource and wealth of information on Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, a full-featured, professional, and seemingly complex yet intuitive software program.
I am a graphic artist/print professional who has toyed with the idea of getting into web design for years. Talk about timing! I love that the book supports a self-paced learning environment, that it is well-written and illustrated, self-critical of possible Macromedia bugs, written from the source, and full of alternative commands and shortcuts to obtain the same effect different ways--and best of all, informative without being overly "techno."
Great stuff!

Summary: This manual should come with Dreamweaver
Review: I bought this book by mistake. I have a good basic understanding of Dreamweaver and this book is of no use to me. In fact this is the manual that should come with Dreamweaver. Very easy to use and follow but offers nothing to anyone who has gotten past the basics.

Summary: Excellent for the Beginner
Review: I purchased Dreamweaver MX 2004 not knowing a thing about web design/programming. After 1 day with this book, I was able to create basic pages. After finishing the book in 1 week, I feel that I have a very good BASIC understanding of Dreamweaver. This book was very beneficial to me.

Summary: A must have for Dreamweaver beginners!
Review: I was new to Dreamweaver when I purchased this book to help me with my conversion from FrontPage. The book is clearly written and takes you step by step through each process. In addition, it shows alternatives methods for doing the same tasks which provides a more thorough understanding of the program. I also have to give Macromedia credit for pointing out specific bugs in the program and giving the work around for them. After completing the book I feel confident in my ability to build websites using Dreamweaver MX 2004.

Summary: Not a single step in the wrong path
Review: I would say I had a semi-advanced knowledge in Dreamweaver before buying this book, but I figured I didn't know all the basics, so I got it to give me some more knowledge before I read the 2nd book in the series, Training from the Source: ASP, coldfusion, and PHP. I have to say that the knowledge base so far in this book has been more then enough for anyone to create an amazing, dynamic website, and I'm just over half ways thru it.

I'm confident that this book will stay with me as long as it exists, it is the best book I've ever owned for such a purpose.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: In college I used to do some freelance web design using Dreamweaver/Fireworks 4. Then I moved on to other career paths, and 3 years later I want to get back into web development. I got a demo of Dreamweaver MX, and I was totally lost. At the recommendation of my local Macromedia User Group Admin, I checked out this book. It was a perfect combination of review (the small amount of things I remembered from 4) and all of the great new functions.

I really liked how the author integrated all of the lessons within the framework of the "Lights of the Coast" website. (Even though I catch myself getting really tired of lighthouses by the time I was done). The lessons were the right length to get a firm understanding, without overkill or boring me to sleep. The steps for the most part we straight forward, and in bold type. There were a few sections where I was confused if the author wanted me to perform an action, or if it was just a side note (not in bold type). A couple extra screenshots through longer lessons could have relieved some confusion if I was really doing things correctly.

I am surprised the author spent as much time with frames and tables, and only one chapter on CSS. But I also understand that this is a basics book, and they wanted to cover the major functionalities. Luckily most of the lessons did not require the previous lesson to be complete, so the reader is able to jump around. (Skipping frames didn't stop me from learning about forms). And even if they did the completed lesson files were already available.

In summary, I highly recommend this book to any newcomer or out of practice user like myself. The lessons were organized with quality content. The ability to pick and choose from topics is essential. I'm sure I will read this book a few more times before I move on. I also look forward to reading more "From the Source" books, especially the Flash and Dreamweaver w/ PHP, Coldfusion. 5 out of 5
