Summary: Don't Buy It!
Review: Let me sum this review up in one long sentence:

Whenever I have a problem with ADO.NET and I have to refer to a book for the answer, I always start with this book, find nothing helpful at all, and end up finding the answer I need in 'ADO.NET in 24 Hours'.

Summary: index is hosed!
Review: Nice book overall. Good code snippets and such. Unfortunately, the index is not 'aligned' correctly! This made it very irritating to find any thing quick (normally I found it off ~3 pages). Very frustrating. As a developer I do not have time to hunt and scour. Thank goodness for yellow stickies!

Summary: Can I give it 6 stars?
Review: Ok, I have read a lot of good books on MS tech. I am myself a MCSD/MCDBA/MCSE, and I can tell you, it doesn't get much better than this.

Here is why.

First of all, I never review without reading a book cover to cover. I read this book cover to cover, and I love the way the author keeps the text anything from dull. I love it the way he puts in small jokes, which still are somewhat pertinent.
Secondly, I love it's practical touch. He points out specific problems that I have faced, and this book puts me right in the forefront as far as problems I will only know about, after having worked with ADO.NET hardcore for 2-3 years.
Thirdly, it's relevance. Most books start beating around the bush, atleast in certain topics they do. This book picks very pertinent issues, and gives practical explanations including criticisms as and when appropriate.

BUY IT. :)

Summary: A reasonably well writen book on ADO.NET
Review: Overall this book is a collection of various ADO.NET topics from the SDK and documentation. David Sceppa has managed to collect all the various topics and re-write them and simplify the subject. The book does flow well. Chapter 13 ties all the pieces of the technology together.

A website for the components provided by the author will be available shortly.

Summary: What a page turner!
Review: Simply the best thorough coverage of ADO.NET I've seen ... and I can't stop reading it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Easily the best on ADO.NET
Review: The author seems to know the reader's mind.
When a question crops up, the answer seems to be right in the next one or two paragraphs.

The author could do better, and earn a 6-star, by going further into Windows Forms-related tasks, such as using ADO.NET/Windows Forms to perform data-entry functions, data validation, etc, as these are classic chores for a front-end database developer.

Also this book is the only one worth reading among those Core Reference titles from MSPress.

Summary: Good book to have.
Review: The book could be the best MS press book i ever got. Of course you can find all the documentations about ADO.NET related classes from msdn, but this book presents the technology in a clear and logical way. Very easy to follow. It covers almost all topics about ADO.NET in reasonable details, coupled with plenty of snippets to practice. First time i read the table of contents of the book i thought it is just another scrach-surface introductory book from MS, turn out to be the author knows the topic well and present it in depth and nicely.

I think this book is a must have if you are doing or plan to do .NET development. Afterall how can you develop an application without thinking about database access nowdays. I donot think this book is for beginners, better have some ADO experience to appreciate this book.

Summary: Very complete. C# & VB.net code included with samples
Review: The book will definitely show the ins/outs of getting connected to databases. The samples in the book show you how to use the drag-n-drop objects as well as using only code to manage your database applications. Samples in book were very realistic and give you a complete view of what goes on with database applications. Each sample gives you code for both VB.Net and C# which is nice since I am also interested in learning C#. You pretty much get the code for both languages for the price of one book. If you are unsure of what book to buy, go to your local bookstore and look at the contents, then come back to the NET to make the discounted purchase. Why pay more in a store retail?...

Summary: Excellent book - all technical books should be this good!
Review: There are already lots of good reviews of this book so I won't duplicate what they have already said.

The feeling I got as I would finish each chapter of this book is that "now I completely understand this part of ADO.NET" including the classes, methods and properties involved. It was a very empowering feeling and I would highly recommend this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: excellent reference, easy to read
Review: This book has excellent and concise examples in context of the topic on the page. There are a couple of typos in the c# code where he basically copied the VB code to the c# section and added semicolons, but typically there is another example within a few pages, so it's easy to identify these. There are also a couple of lame jokes, but overall it's very good.
