Rating: Summary: This is "The Book" !!!! Review: Full of examples, the author literally takes you by the hand to show you every aspect of designing a web page. Examples, movie presentations, clear explanations, lot of practice, this is the book that easily replaces a much more expensive on-class training worth close to a a thousand dollars. The book states that is not necessary to know XHTML coding to start reading this book. I disagree! The readings are much more faster if you already know a bit of XHTML programming.
Rating: Summary: Not the Best Review: I am new to Dreamweaver and this is the 3rd book that I have purchased. It moves too slowly...too many redundant explanations (I get it already!) The book could be trimmed down by 200 pages. Information is generally good. There are some good tips and it does cover all the basics. The humor that Garo tries to intersperse is a bit annoying. I prefer a more professional approach.
Rating: Summary: A good start... Review: I purchased this book used. It was in great condition and the CD was unopened. I used it for a beginning web design class. Class was spent learning other things so it was up to us on our own time to learn the program. It's been a great help to me the and interactive chapters and movies work really well. They break everthing down so it's as simple as possible. I had a basic fully functioning site made by Chap 6.
The only hang up people might have is that it caters far more to PC users than Mac ones. Most of the examples are PC based. But I work on a PC and used a Mac for my classes and had no problems.
I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't know the program at all and wants to learn the basics of Dreamweaver.
Rating: Summary: Cutesy and Wordy Review: I should warn you up front that MX 2004 is the first version of Dreamweaver I've used, and this is the only book on Dreamweaver I've gone through. Veterans of Dreamweaver may have a different perspective on this book. That said, the book isn't wearing well for me. I have so far worked through Chapter 7, and taken frequent peeks at the chapters to come. At first, I was impressed by the detailed and numerous screen shots, but then I began noticing all kinds of small discrepancies between the text and the screen shots. Furthermore, I'm using the Mac version of the software. If you only read Chapter 1 in the bookstore, it looks as if Mac and Windows screen shots get about equal time. In point of fact, don't expect to see any Mac screen shots after Chapter 2, and some of the ones that are included are misleading and/or mislabeled. I realize that there must have been great time pressure to get this book out near the release date for the software, but it would have been nice to have a Mac user work through and proofread this book. Finally, I find the writing style irritating. There are lots of smileys in the text, which make it seem much less professional to me, and the author tries to keep a conversational tone, but it often just seems too cute.
Rating: Summary: The Most Effective Book for Absolute Beginners Review: I started learning about web design and developing one year ago as an absolute novice. I read quite a few other books regarding Dreamweaver Mx and Flash Mx. Most of them are quite tedious but I forced myself through because I didn??t know better. I wasn??t able to put a web site together till I found the Hands-on Training series. I got acquainted with Garo Green?? book and followed every step illustrated in the book to build a model site bansaihut.com. Within 3 months I was able to put together a sophisticated site (with the help of using Flash MX as well). Garo Green??s humorous style makes a daunting task of learning web building from scratch simply a fun enjoyable process. Matter of fact, his book is so effective that I easily adapted to using Dreamweaver MX 2004. Out of curiosity, I purchased this 2004 book just for reference even though it??s too easy for me now. Now I am a certified Macromedia Dreamweaver developer, I found Marc Campbell??s Developer Certification Study Guide a must read for my current level. I don??t regret spending time reading other books. In fact, it??s best to read a few books regarding the same subject and learn something new from different authors. I??m not saying other books are of lesser value but it??s this very book ?C the Hands-on Training that gave me the ability to create a live functional web site.

Rating: Summary: A GREAT BOOK!!! Review: I started working on Dreamweaver MX 2004 with some basic experience from earlier Dreamweaver versions. I was completely lost and unable to understand what I was doing. Garo Green's book laid it all out very clearly and simply. I keep it by my right-hand side all the time now. His writing sytle is relaxed and personable. There's no wordy descriptions or explanations. It won't put you to sleep like the other books did.
Rating: Summary: This Book Will Turn You into a Web Designer in No Time Review: If you're running Panther on a Mac G4 machine, than this is the book for you, assuming of course you've upgraded from Dreamweaver MX. If you haven't than you certainly should think about doing so, because the 2004 version has so much to offer. Others have said it, and I'll second the motion, this "Hands-On Training" book should have been the one to come with the official program. Garo Green and Lynda Weinman from lynda.com assume you have only limited knowledge of how your Mac works. No knowledge of HTML is required. If you can work your mouse, you're ready to go. You'll be designing your first website in no time at all. This one gets two thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Dreamweaver Review: The authors start out by informing us that they are very proud to be teachers. They feel it gives them insight into how students learn. And they do a good job working you through the many features of Dreamweaver. In this respect I recommend this book. But I've got a bone to pick... As a hobbyist web builder who has been hand-coding for quite some time but now needs the time-saving power of a program like Dreamweaver - I feel they are teaching some bad habits. In Chapter 6 "Typography" they spend the first 2 pages talking about how the techniques they are about to teach are frowned upon and may one day be considered non-standard code. They also explain that in a later chapter they'll be teaching another way of working with Type that is future-proof. I ask: Why wait? Why not move up that later chapter to Chapter 6 and leave Chapter 6 as a PDF on the CD-ROM? I'm also not a big fan of table-based design. But I can't fault the authors for embracing it - it's still the best way to get your site to look good on different browsers. Overall the book is good. Especially for beginners.
Rating: Summary: Good but not Great.... Review: This book is good if you are a beginner and dont know the software at all but...if you are looking for some advance learning this book is not for you.
