Rating: Summary: Excellent choice for Exchange admins and devs Review: Another fine Pocket Consultant from William Stanek. Clear, Concise, and encyclopedic in scope. This "Pocket" book is designed to serve as a reference for common and not so common procedural tasks. It is also great for learning Exchange. I used this book to get Exchange up and running in minimum time. As with most of his other "Pocket" references, Mr. Stanek does a very thorough job of documenting tasks in a highly organized manner. You will get more out of this book in a few days than you will combing the newsgroups for months and months. I haven't found a daily administration question this book didn't answer. I keep a copy in my backpack so I have it always with me. This is a book you will find yourself referring to on a daily basis. With Amazon dropping the price by 30%, it is a deal that cannot be beat! Very highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Exactly what I was looking for...focuses on Exchange essentials and does an excellent job. I was pleasantly surprised how well written. I'll look for Stanek's books from now on when I need an Exchange reference.
Rating: Summary: Recommended to anyone who admins Exchange Review: Exchange Server 2003 Administrator's Pocket Consultant is exceptionally well written. Do not be influenced by the few negative reviews seen here on Amazon. I picked this text up at Barnes & Noble and spent an hour with it before biuying it and leaving the store. I am a CCNA, MCSE, and A+, and I have developed a much greater understanding of Exchange by reading William Stanek's book.I liked the straightforward no nonsense approach to problem solving and feature implementation. This is one book you can read from cover to cover. The book excels as a technical reference as well, giving the reader pertinent information quickly, with good tips and great real world advice. I especially appreciated the comprehensive coverage of mobile access. This is a must book for anyone who admins Exchange. The best how to for daily operations and fast answers.

Rating: Summary: Mediocre Review: I bought this book hoping for some admin-like advice, i.e. SSL usage, restrictive relay settings, MX records, etc. Unfortunately it comes up short on advice, but reads mostly like a reprint of the Exchange help files. If you're new to Exchange 2000/2003 this will help you find where they moved all the settings and controls...
Rating: Summary: An excellent guide for newbies and experts alike Review: I have ordered several manuals for Exchange Server 2003. I haven't found a question yet that Stanek's "Pocket Consultant" hasn't addressed fully. The index (20 pages!!!) has actually had an entry for every single hitch I've come up against. I've been able to solve problems left and right that the other manuals I got didn't help with either! This is a technically direct and accessable reference that will even give you the "why-and-how-it works". And besides that, it's clear and easy to follow! William Stanek has a long history of writing books with a clear and easy to follow style. You get high tech, direct help with ease of use and enjoyable reading. Who could ask for more? I'm recommending it to every Exchange user and admin I talk to! If you really want to get it done, and you're only getting one manual, go with this one. It's incredibly well written, jam packed full of useful help, appropriately detailed, and best of all, it will actually get used!!!

Rating: Summary: Great for Exchange Server 2003 -- does just what it says Review: I have Stanek's Exchange 2000 book and bought this as soon as I saw it without hesitation. Again, I found this book to be well organized and well presented. It is clear that a lot of thought went into the planning and writing this book. The writing is clear and there's a lot of useful information. I highly recommmend it. Kudos to the author!
Rating: Summary: Oustanding! Amazingly concise, comprehensive! Review: I'm an IT professional and have been reading the new crop of books on Exchange Server 2003. I have to admit, many of the books out there are disappointing but this WAS NOT one of them. I can not express how helpful this book was to me. I can not think of a chapter in this book that I did not learn something from. It was my first Stanek book and I have to say that I wish I found him earlier. This book was well done and worth every penny! Thank you William Stanek for an excellent book! I found more useful information in this book than any other on the subject. And anyone having trouble finding what they are looking for are unfamiliar with the "index" or they didn't even read this book. As an example, SSL which a previous reviewer says wasn't covered is discussed extensively; it is part of the core discussion on using Virtual Servers with Exchange and that is the subject of no less than two chapters. Similarly, MX records are discussed 4 different times as they relate to various Exchange features. And relay restrictions is covered in several areas and is also part of a 3 pages discussion on setting and using relay restrictions. I was amazed by how well this book gets across the gist of Exchange so effectively! I thought that the Mailbox Administration, Exchange Client, Mobile Access, and Store Administration coverage was really well done. The Message Transfer and Routing section really saved me too. The back up and recovery coverage, Virtual server, public folders and storage groups explanations were all concise and very comprehensive. A job well done!
Rating: Summary: Covers the essentials...everthing you need for daily adminis Review: I've been an Exchange developer and administration for 6 years and have gone through a lot of admin, developer, programmer books on the subject. Probably bought a lot more books than I ever used. When gearing up for Exchange Server 2003 I went back to look at the books I actually used previously and went to find out if new editions were available of those books. I bought Exchange Server 2003 Administrator's Pocket Consultant as soon as I saw it. It hasn't let me down yet. The book will be used as the core book in my Exchange Server 2003 Admin class.
