Rating: Summary: Great for getting quick grasp... Review: I've found this book great for getting a quick grasp of JSP and Java Servlets. While I had a little bugger of a time setting the development environment setup, I was breezing through using this book. I'd highly recommend it for beginner to intermediate programmers. I used a coupon from UnderTag.com, so it was almost free for me too.
Rating: Summary: Excelent environment setup explinations Review: 2nd edition has all the details for environment setup so it makes it easy and clear how to start your first web application. I always refer to this book when I need some reference or to review basic web application development.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: I love this book. It's exactly how I would have written a book: with lot of detailed examples. IMO theres no other way better than illustrating things with examples. It's worth every penny you spend. I am very eager to buy Volume II, once it hits the stores in this spring.
Rating: Summary: A good book Review: I like the book as a novice to this tehnology. It covers the things that I needed to know but there are lots of refferences to the volume 2 which in my opinion could have been integrated into this book easily if the author had removed the java code that he put in volume one. Basicaly, I prefer to have code snippets about the API or concepts that are being discussed and not 5 pages of code (which, by the way are also available on the Internet). But the grand picture IMHO is that the author has done a good job with this and the volume 2 books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: I found it an excellent book. I am a Sun Certified Java Programmer, and I was looking for a book to get started on Servlets and JSP. This book does just that. It lays out the basic topics in a very easy to understand way, and lot of examples.
So once you are through with this book, you will have a very good basic understanding about how servlets and JSP work. I ended up reading up 16 chapters in 4 days. I am looking forward to buy the second volume too.
cheers
