Summary: REHASH!!!
Review: Most of this text is a rehash of Ms. Bousquet's 2 previous works on 3DSTUDIO MAX 3, and 3DS MAX 4, respectively. Even the tutorials are the same! Outrageous!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Must Have for Mastering 3DS MAX 5
Review: This book is essential for the newbie. It eases you into the 3D world of 3D Studio. You feel confident that you can master this bohemoth of a program. One caveat to an otherwise glowing review is the section on spline modelling. The author mentions that this is an essential aspect of modelling, which it is, but gives very little instruction and drops you into a nearly impossible spline modelling tutorial. This part was very frustrating.

If you really want to learn the ins and outs of Max quickly you should purchase this book and after you are familiar with the interface and functionality, go back to the discreet supplied tutorials - the two together are a complete package.

Summary: Perhaps the best I have ever read
Review: This book is so well written, I could set it on the floor, trip over it and still learn 3Ds Max! It has made me learn so fast that it leaves me craving more. Every day, I can't wait to get home and consume this book! It explains things in easy, universal terms that we can all understand. There was no over-flated ego writing this book, and no verbose explanantions. The exercises force you to have fun while learning! THANK YOU Michele and Aaron!

Summary: ALMOST COMPLETE!!
Review: This books is a must-have and the author known about max and, he give a lot of usefull tips. For example, the author talk about "activeshades" in the render.. they say how usefullness it can be BUT he also say that activeshades are not useable for all thinks.. even more he show the pro and cons about it.

The only problems is in the arts.. the models are simple or ugly (not bad modelled but ugly). You must complement this book with a 3d artistic book.

This books is for newbs, intermediated and even veterans.

Summary: Very clear, well-written book.
Review: Though not necessarily meant for the advanced user, this book should prove invaluable for those new to 3DS Max, whether you're just starting out or you're moving over from another 3D toolset and need to get up to speed. I think the way it's written and laid out would make it particularly useful in a classroom setting. I have a couple of similar books that sort of walk you through the steps of their tutorials without going over the actual reasoning for their approach. But instead, the authors of this book explain very clearly not only how to go about creating something, but more importantly *why* it is done that way, leaving the reader with a much deeper understanding of the subject. A very well thought out book. I'd say look no further.
