Rating: Summary: The BIBLE of computer graphics Review: A great book. It's really amazing. All computer graphics knowledge is here. Calling it "the bible of computer graphics" is not a mistake.
Rating: Summary: Complete and easy to understand Review: A very good book. It may be somewhat dated in coverage of devices, but this sort of material does not represent the meat of the text. More importantly, the book handles theory in a concise and easily understood manner. A+
Rating: Summary: Good Reference Review: After reading many books on the same subject, I found this one to be the most complete in scope. The only thing left desired is a few full-source examples, even though the psuedo-code is very nice. Slap a CD in the book for the third edition, and it can't get any better.
Rating: Summary: Still the one and only. Review: Although some of the information on hardware in this book is slowly becoming outdated, nearly all of the algorithms and math are still relevent for today's systems. After two years of using this book, it is still the one and only book in my collection that I can not do without.
Rating: Summary: Wide ranging but dated information Review: An excellent book for the basics of computer graphics and for the advances up until 1990 [when the second edition was released]. Much of the information is out of date (like a lot of the 2D "Simple Raster Graphics Package" stuff, and text talking about circa 1980 plotters, scanners, and keyboards. None of the exciting developments from 1990 to 1998 are included. This book was an easy 5 stars when the second edition came out in 1990, but now I'd suggest the Watt books to get a good general overview of computer graphics.
Rating: Summary: A good use of my money Review: For someone new to the field of computer graphics, I was looking for a book that would provide me with a solid from-the-ground up discussion. This book meets and exceeds my expectations. The book is well structured and more than thorough enough for a newbie like myself. I like that the author explains not only how to do everything, but describes the various advantages and disadvantages of every technique, usually offering several different techniques to achieve the same result. I plan to read this book cover to cover and then again, there is so much good info.

Rating: Summary: Big, bloated, and boring Review: Guess what? I DID understand all of the math/theory in this book and I still thought it wasn't very good. Foley's explanantions of even the easiest concepts are lengthy and confusing--a bane for anyone using this book as either an introductory computer graphics text or as a reference. Nice try though.
Rating: Summary: Computer Graphics != Easy to Grasp Review: I don't know why people seem to think they can just pick up a graphics book on theory and grasp concepts without having to wade through mathematical formulas. Computer graphics IS like nuclear physics, it is not a walk through the park. This book, entitled "The Computer Graphics Bible" is your park guide. It has a comprehensive overview of most concepts, and tons of references to more info on those subjects. There isn't much code, but that's a good thing, because the only wy you can learn this stuff is by implementation, and that's how it should be done, not by copying code from a book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Rating: Summary: A must-have for graphics professionals Review: I give this book only four stars because it is getting a bit old. Some of the book is a bit dated or vague, but there is no doubt that this is the most comprehensive book on graphics out there. Some of the sections are stronger than others (e.g the discussion of filtering is excellent, while the discussion of coordinate transforms is somewhat lacking). Even with some of the problems, there are about 800 pages of fantastic material and a very thorough bibliography. If you are serious about graphics you should buy this book.
