Rating: Summary: Misinformation galore Review: A must read for marketing managers and individuals who are serious about their companies search engine listings. Mr. Konia takes the mystery out of this very broad field with straight to the point no nonsense explanations and examples. This book explains not only the nuts of bolts of Web Position Gold 2, but also how to effectively implement WPG 2 in a short amount of time. The section relating to link popularity I found particularly useful considering that I was unaware of just how important and effective this is. Two thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Much needed resource for using WebPosition Gold 2 Review: All I can say is, why didn't you write this book sooner?! I've been an avid Gold user for years (when it was still WebPosition Analyzer), and as it's developed and added new features, it's become more complex. This book offers an easy step-by-step walk through of the program as well as features other valuable search engine optimization strategies. It will be particularly valuable to new Gold 2 users, but any Gold user could benefit from the book. Just today I learned of a new "goodie" in the program that I didn't know existed! The book is great Brad -- thanks for writing it. It will help my online and workshop students a lot!Robin Nobles, Author Director of Training of the Academy of Web Specialists Trainer with Search Engine Workshops
Rating: Summary: Mixed feelings, but overall, a useful book Review: As I was reading through the first chapters of this book one thought came to mind: this is just a recycled User Guide. Much of the first third of it is devoted to explanation of the software, its installation and setup, which you can read IN the software itself. Also other chapters of the book are devoted to components of WebPosition Gold which I personally find to be pretty useless: Page Generator, Upload Manager, Traffic Analysis, considering that this tool is far from bein ideal for accomplishing these three tasks. Finally, the topic of Link Popularity seemed to be thrown in last minute, given its importance nowadays that Search Engine Optimization is progressively harder to accomplish. Now, when the book deals with the Reporter, Page Critic and Submitting tools that WebPosition Gold is a great software for, is when it gets really useful. It goes beyond the basics and deals with the tips and pitfalls of the different features offered by the software, warning against apparently good ideas which could get your web site banned from certain Search Engines, etc. All in all, I appreciated the advice contained in the book, but had to resort to other sources to complement the knowledge about Internet Marketing that I was seeking.
Rating: Summary: Response to August 9th Review Review: I am the author of this book and I feel compelled to respond to the slew of false statements posted anonymously by "A Reader" in the August 9th review. It is obvious from reading this "review" that this person does not have even the most basic comprehension of search engine optimization principles, nor does he (she?) understand the purpose of WebPosition Gold. WebPosition Gold is first and foremost an analytical tool. It makes statistical comparisons between your Web pages and competing pages that are highly ranked in search engines. It then presents you with detailed reports including specific recommendations on how to make your pages more appealing to search engines. Since the reports are based on up-to-the-minute statistical analysis, it is absurd for the reviewer to state that this information is out-of-date. It's also misleading to state that search engines don't like this program. Search engines don't like people who spam their databases with off-topic pages. While it's true that one could use WebPosition to generate these types of pages, this tactic is strongly discouraged by FirstPlace Software, the developer of the program. Had the reviewer bothered to actually read the book, he would have found that I also warned readers against using any type of deceptive tactics with search engines. The point is that WebPosition is a tool. Like any tool, it can be used properly and professionally, or it can be misused. The reason I wrote this book was to help people learn how search engine optimization professionals use this program. For the record, my company currently has hundreds of clients with top positions in every major search engine. If you make the necessary time investment to learn and apply the principles described in this book, you can achieve similar results for your company.
Rating: Summary: Misinformation galore Review: I can't believe that such out-of-date misinformation is actually for sale. It's really well-known that search engines really don't like this program. Search on the web for information and you'll find a lot of people losing their IP addresses, and even their domain names, in search engines. Why would you take the risk of being banned by the major search engines, when it's a fact that the engines recommend to stay away from this stuff? I would not recommend this book at any price. I loved the totally-wrong myths at the end though: "It's a myth that search engines don't like doorway pages." Yeah, search engines really love it when you try to pull tricks like that. Sheesh..
Rating: Summary: Looking for more Review: I like and dislike WPG 2. I liked the Reporter and the Page Critic I think these are the best tools on WPG 2. But I disliked the Page Generator and the Upload Manager they didn't seem to be of much use for me. After becoming computer and e-commerce literate I was aware of all the different things one can add or do to one's site. After the 30 days were up for my trial period I decided not to get WPG 2. I thought the price for the Professional Edition was too much. I found something better. SBI! Check out traffic.sitesell.com/all-in-1.html and you'll see what I mean! Although others successfully use WPG 2 I was looking for something more and I FOUND IT!
