Rating: Summary: A watershed moment in .NET literature Review: Part One of Visual Basic .NET Database Programming is without question the best explanation of the .NET framework I have read to date. The authors do an outstanding job of not only explaining the "how," but ensuring that the reader understands the "why." They meticulously craft an engaging picture of relational database concepts and how Microsoft's latest data access technologies can be leveraged from both the desktop and the web to build a scalable and robust database-driven application. This book is a wonderful guide for both the beginner and the seasoned programmer, as it provides an insightful explanation of relational databases and database design and lays down a clear pathway into the world of .NET.Merhaba!

Rating: Summary: You need this book! Review: The authors expose the reader to solid development concepts and teach not just how to build enterprise applications, but to successfully build the knowledge base necessary to think through design, build and implementation. It's NOT a book for programmers but developers. The book's layout and organization allows developers to master specific technology concepts in depth, while allowing the freedom to accumilate knowledge without an artifical sequential teaching style. It's a must read for all serious enterprise developers and architects.
Rating: Summary: Filled with Hidden Gems!!! Review: There are notes throughout the book pointing out more advanced details and really interesting editorials, such as "is OLEDB dead?" Plus, there was a surprising section on SQL administration, which I often find overlooked in most database books. It provides you with tips on how to improve the performance of your SQL Server. It's substantively indepth in its coverage
Rating: Summary: Great book to get you started Review: This a great book to get you started with the new features for databases in VB.NET. Some of the early reviews missed the point. The future of data access is all about SQL and XML. This is a great book to help you into this brave new world.
Rating: Summary: Weak on MS Access and Window Form applications Review: This book barley discusses MS Access Databases and is all about SQL/XML. The focus is also more toward internet this and internet that and the writer forgets that some people don't want to write database programs for windows (forms on your own computer). I hate to be harsh but this book does not cover MS Access or Windows side programming enough to fill a pocket book. Don't waste your money or time unless you are a SQL/XML looking for internet front end apps.

Rating: Summary: Holey disorganization! Review: This book goes WAY WAY WAY far away from standard VB books. Instead of step by step with examples it seems to kind of overview, and sort of give instructions. It's just very hard to go through. It's not meant for a walkthrough because of how odd it is going through it, its also not meant as a reference because everything is located everywhere.

Rating: Summary: Learn how to be a enterprise architect Review: This book is a great way to become more than just a developer - and become an architect! Not only do you get practical examples of the code, but the author also steps you through the theory behind why you should do something. Helps you design your systems rather than hack up code. If you are interesting in building any data driven .NET systems, this is the book for you. Learn everything you needed to know about ADO.NET.
