Rating: Summary: Superb Coldfusion Resource Review: An excellent introduction for those looking to get into coldfusion and a solid reference for those already using it. Covers a good introduction into databases and SQL, then introduces coldfusion and how to access data. Moves on to more advanced topics in the later half of the book.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended for beginning/intermediate users Review: Ben Forta's The ColdFusion 5.0 Web Application Construction Kit is now in a fully updated and expanded fourth edition covering all the new features and options in ColdFusion 5 -- the next major upgrade for this popular software. Forta presents and teaches all the basics required to be able to create complete and professional applications, including: create real-time, secure, scalable, web based applications, use the new ColdFusion Studio development tools, including the WYSIWYG editor and the interactive SQL query builder, develop Intranet applications to interact with existing corporate databases, create secure e-commerce sites, use the new debugging tools and features, generate business graphics using the new graphing engine, implement security and access control, create reusable components, and build complete applications from the ground up. Highly recommended for beginning/intermediate users.
Rating: Summary: Top ColdFusion seller for a reason Review: Excellent reference. Although aimed squarely at new ColdFusion developers, there is enough meat in this book to satisfy experienced developers. Well-written and easy to follow, Forta shows why he is well respected in the CF community. Note that many of the advanced topics present in previous editions have been moved to the "Advanced" book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!! Review: Excellent!! Simply awesome. This book is loaded and has Super-Duper coverage of Coldfusion. 1500 pages! and not a single page is wasted over useless or redundant information. There is nothing left to say except, if you are interested at all in Coldfusion, just go buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Love it Review: I am new to Coldfusion and this is a must book for anyone who is starting to learn Coldfusion. The book is just "GREAT". I wished every book I have purchased would be this good.
Rating: Summary: They don't make them any better! Review: I come to Coldfusion programming with a couple years of experience with some other languages and with just about an hour with this book I was able to start writing fully functioning CF code. I keep this book on my desk and refer back to it constantly. The pages are already about worn out. Mr. Forta's easy to follow instructions with excellent real world code examples have been very helpful. I buy tons of how-to books and, I must say, I have never taken the time to review one until now. This book is a must have for anyone starting Coldfusion programming!

Rating: Summary: Not as good as the hype suggests Review: I own both the third edition (covering CF 4.0) and this one, and there are major difference between the two, not to this edition's advantage. I thought the previous edition was a lesson in clarity, and it was concise, still containing most of the things one needed to know to be reasonable proficient in CFML. This book, however, is quite bloated, and more importantly, lacks the clarity of its predecessor. But, bloated as it is, it omits, or keeps unreasonable short, several vital explanations. I mean, there are more explanations, for instance, about locking in the Study guide than in this book! The same goes for CFSCRIPT, etc, etc. Granted, there are two books by Forta et al, but you may find that the price tag is little too hefty... Sorely lacking are the tags and Functions reference section that was SOOOOO useful in the previous volume. You now have to buy the Reference guide. Etc, etc...This is a disappointing book, because the third edition had me set my hopes high for the follow-up. You should really, really favor the O'Reilly book, it's extremely straightforward, clear, and contains everything of importance, INCLUDING the tags and Functions reference.

Rating: Summary: Another Masterpiece! Review: I was fortunate enough to attend a recent user group meeting where they raffled off a few of the first books, hot off the presses, and I won! I'm absolutely thrilled with this new edition! It is a monster at over 1500 pages, but is packed with tons of new information that you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. I notice, too, that it is now an official Macromedia book (Macromedia Press logo is on the cover), which was a pleasant surprise. Way to go Ben and Macromedia!
