Summary: A total disappointment, a worthless book
Review: After trying to teach Access to my students with this badly written book I had to give up. I must agree with other reviewers. The book does not come close to explaning the very basics of database management in the right order of ideas. Too bad that Microsoft does not care to review their books before they go to press.

Summary: Maybe for those who work with established databases
Review: As a beginner that needs to create simplistic databases, this book didn't even cover enough to attain this task. I found better help from the "help" menu within Access 2000 program itself, though not much better. This book may be helpful to someone that needs to maneuver in an already established Access database and doesn't need any additional modifications.

Summary: Using Access 2000 Practically
Review: Having taught courses on Access starting with its 1995 release, I was pleased to see a book that allowed the complete novice something to work with and use to get Access to perform. Whether you understand databases, or are completely new to database construction, this book will help get you where you want to go. It should be supplemented with another book if you plan to "master" Access. For the beginner to intermediate, however, this book is fantastic.

Summary: Great book for beginners
Review: I teach database management using Access (not an Access training course), and this book enables introductory students to complete exercises without supervision and learn the basics and beyond. The Catapault books are some of the very best I've found for rank beginners to use on their own. Great exercise CD included with explicit instructions and modular lessons that go by quickly. Beginning students really like this book.

Summary: good basic info but somewhat flawed...
Review: i think this might be good starting point for learning access but there are probably better books out there. a lot of the examples are like "click on this" "type that" without really explaining to you what you are doing or what the other options that are available would do. so you are learning how to do one thing but the menu you chose itfrom has 9 other things you can do that arent explained, so if you were learning access and applying it to something at work if what you were doing didnt match exactly what you did in the book you would still do a lot of guessing or you would need another book. the end of chapter exercises also are either too vague or too step by step (making you feel like you are doing anything other than painting by numbers rather than learning)and there are no "answers" and not even a lot of pictures of what you should end up with, so for all you know you did it all wrong. this book and cd gets you comfortable access but just seems to basic for me for anyone other than someone who barely uses a computer

Summary: Great Job!
Review: I'm disappointed that many people have put down this book because it doesn't teach how to build a database. If you look through the contents, it obviously focuses on using preconstructed databases, not building them. With that in mind, I had never used Access before, bought this book, used it from cover to cover, and based on what I learned got a job that doubled my secretarial salary. I do hope, however, that the authors of this book create an advanced version, because it is only beginner to somewhat intermediate level, but I just loved the fact that the authors did not assume any knowledge on the users' part and still managed to keep me from feeling like I was using one of those awful dummies books.

Summary: By a good book
Review: If you want to learn something about access 2000, don't by this book. It does not work very sistimaticly. It never goes in any depth. Maybe you can consider bying the book if you have to work with Access, not if you have to make database. I bought another more complete and expensive book. I should have done that in the first place.

Summary: Total Disappointment
Review: Please dont bother buying this book if you are an entry level Access user. The books goes round and round in circles about one database created for a company and does not come even close to explaining the basics of database management.

A total disappointment.
