Rating: Summary: How to make big $$$$ with Oracle Official Authorization Review: Jason Couchman must be laughing his head off on his own private island. Slap together a book full of mistakes (scripts that don't work, INCORRECT information, inane opinions,) and get it reviewed by his kindergarten kids. Get a buddy at Oracle to whack "Officially Authorized Oracle Press" on it.... then watch the dollars flow in.He didn't even both updating reference to ora81 directories. Shame on you Jason. I thought Nigerian e-mail scams were bad, but this book is just a cruel rip-off of people wanting to get somewhere in life. Shame on you Oracle for giving it your blessing. I may pass the exam but books such as this will not help me become a competent Oracle DBA.
Rating: Summary: Good book to prepare you for the test Review: Overall I thought this was a very good book. There were some typos, and an error or two on the sample test CD that was included, but many typos (errors in book questions) are corrected on the exampilot website "exam guide fixes" page. As someone with some SQL and Oracle experience I was able to pass the actual exam by just studying from this book, but there were a few questions on the exam that were not covered in this book so I recommend supplementing with a basic SQL book (I like "The Practical SQL Handbook" by Bowman, Emerson, Darnovsky), and a basic Oracle DBA book like "The Oracle9i DBA Handbook" by Loney and Theriault.
Rating: Summary: Amaizing book Complete fraud Review: Some readers indicated that the book has multiple errors due to editing problems. False. The author simply does not know many critical SQL questions. Considering that most of the books like this has been ripped from product documentation, the Author is not only a bad writer, but not a good reader either. Jason, you have to re-read Joins. And many other things...
Rating: Summary: Not of much help. Review: The book does not contain much information.Include more information on Oracle 9i concepts and on ANSI/ISO join syntax for more than two table.
Rating: Summary: Has many errors and doesn't cover iSql*Plus ! Review: The book is plentiful in erros, to an extent that eventually you feel you need to try every stated fact to be absolutely sure it isn't an error. Book also does not cover iSql*Plus, an area tested in 1Z0-007. Apart from these lapses, I did manage to pass the exam well by using the book.
Rating: Summary: Great book but beware of the interactive CD-ROM software! Review: The book is very well organized and easy to follow. It is an excellent tool to prepare for the OCP. I strongly agree with the other reviewers that there are some errors in the book that are frustrating. I was pleased that there is a nice errata web page posted ... and this helped me edit the text so I was studying the correct information for the OCP. I am VERY disappointed with the CD_ROM software that comes with the textbook and provides interactive questions to prepare for the OCP. There are incorrect answers provided in this software, so the end result is that I found myself dilligently learning wrong answers for the OCP. There is no errata for the CD-ROM. You're on your own figuring out what's correct and what's incorrect. It's a dangerous tool to use due to the fact you can study very hard and the end result will be that you learned wrong answers to the OCP test. Perhaps an easy solution to this problem could be to simply have errata included on the existing errata web site for the CD-ROM questions. The CD-ROM questions have unique numbers, so it would be easy to post the correct answers to these questions on the errata web site. In the meantime I'm focusing on the book and leaving the CD-ROM unused. The book though is excellent. The author did a super job, and I hope the other three Oracle Press books that follow in the Oracle 9i OCP sequence are as good as this one is.
Rating: Summary: is there any other OCP books out there?? Review: the practice questions in the book are far too easy comparing to the actual exam. I manage to pass the exam mainly because my job role involve the use of Oracle, definitely not because of this book.
Rating: Summary: Disappointment Review: This book contains many errors, in text and tests. It does not help you in explaining how Oracle functions. The examples used in this book are too simple to be of any help. Without any experience in Oracle, passing the test with this book alone is very unlikely. I would recommend buying a different book! (if available)
Rating: Summary: Not a good book. Review: This book contains too many errors, in text and tests. It does not help you in explaining how Oracle functions. This book contains too many errors. It is well organized but only few Oracle 9i new features are related in this book, not all. And during the OCP exam you will have some questions about the 9i commands that are not here. Then you need to find another way to learn Oracle 9i SQL. Without any experience in Oracle, passing the test with this book alone is very unlikely. Even with a good experience you need another books or documentations to help you.
Rating: Summary: Good one for people with some prior Oracle experience Review: This book covers everything you need for exam 1Z0-007. Of course, there are some errors in both the book and the practice test software. The book has published errata at the Osborne Press website which covers a majority of the discrepancies. The test software included with the book has generally the same errors as the book and you should be able to figure it out from there. Unfortunately the practice test software cannot be updated with the corrections. Overall, this book is an excellent resource for learning the content for testing and tuning up your skills before testing. Would Recommend!
