Rating: Summary: Too simplistic. Review: Seemed to sacrifice text and depth for graphics. Gives a definition of terms, but not an explanation of what the terms actually are. The definitions often leave you with more questions.
Rating: Summary: A must for beginning computer students Review: This book is a must read for all of our computer students here at First Bytes Computer School. It is especially helpful for first-time computer buyers and beginning students. We keep copies on hand for reading before and after classes.
Rating: Summary: This book is extremely easy to understand. Review: This book is what I've been looking for the longest time. The technical terms become understood by simple graphical explations using cartoon characters. The book is well organzied from the first chapter to the last to let you understand what a computer is and it's various basic operations. If you are think of buying a computer and you want to understand what kind of computer to buy or not buy this is the book to have. This book is very simple to understand if you've never used one before. Which is unusual I was able to read 10 pages in one hour using this book. I still use this as a reference. I am pleased to have read this book.
Rating: Summary: Review Review: This is a great book to give to computer 'newbies' . I gave it to my parents who are buying a computer for the first time, they have never been on the internet, and barely know how to use the mouse. It explains things very well. It covers the basics without being too simplistic. Its an 'easy' read that doesn't intimidate computer 'newbies'. It does a great job explaining hard drives, RAM, chip sets, bus speed, modems, etc. It even tells how to make sure your phone is properly set up for the Internet - like turning off call-waiting. The illustrations are great! This is a great book to help a person decipher all the computer talk when it comes to buying a computer for the first time!
