Summary: MS Windows 2000 Server Admin companion
Review: A very comprehensive, in depth book. So far, covers everything I've needed to find. Well written, and a very easy read. It is thick, and not the type of book you would just sit down and read in a few hours, but it's great reference.

Rating: 5 stars

Summary: Kudos for Russel and Crawford
Review: Finally, a Win2K book that thoroughly covers a number of very technically challenging subjects without it being a challenge itself to read --

This is not only an excellent study guide for anyone re-certifying for Win2K, being an easy to read, comprehensive flow of concept, without bullying you into technical submission, but also makes an *excellent* reference once it's gotten you solidly up and running.

It should be a *MANDATORY* addition to any Win2K administrator's library.

Hey, Microsoft... wanna learn how to write a Training Kit? Read this book!

Summary: Necessary Reading
Review: For a quick reference in day to day administration of a Microsoft network you would be hard pressed to find better written documentation.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I don't usually like great big books but Windows 2000 is a great big program and deserves it. This book has plenty of details on planning and good technical information. Useful for anyone running a network with Windows 2K on it.

Summary: Useless for MSMQ info
Review: Needed info on setting up MSMQ 2.0 in Win2000 Server and all this book had was 3 pages: 1 page of "marketing hype" on why MSMQ is needed, 1 page on "What the Message Queue Does", and 1 page on "Factors in planning a Message Queing Network" and "Hardware issues involved in Message Queuing." No Setup info, no Maintance info, no troubleshooting. Win2000 on-line help has more info for MSMQ then this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best book on Win2k
Review: One of my first purchases when I implemented our Windows 2000 Server was the Resource Kit. I struggled with it for months before getting the Administrator's Companion. I immediately found Admnistrator's companion well written, concise, and very helpful in almost all aspects of managing the server.

I would consider this a must-have resource for administering W2K server!

Summary: This book covers it all!
Review: This book covers all aspects of Windows 2000 perfectly. It could not be improved. I use it for reference on any problem I come across. An A+++.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the most complete references about Windows 2000
Review: This book is one of the most complete Windows 2000 books you could find. I read this book from cover to cover and is a great book to have as a complete Windows 2000 Server reference. Not full on every aspects (if you are looking for clustering configuration, this is not the book to purchase). It covers DHCP, WINS, DNS, Active Directory, Internet Information Services...and the rest of the Windows 2000 features very well. A very thick book, but worth the time.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Probably the only win2k server reference you need
Review: This book should be kept in the server room by every win2k server administrator. (Then carry the "windows 2000 pocket consultant" with you when you move around.) Everything you want to know about the workings of Windows 2000 Server is in here. The coverage on Active Directory is the best I've seen so far. The sections on Internet setup is also excellent and easy to follow. Although I think the index can be improved, information is quite easy to find.

If you work with win2k server, this is definitely worth getting. If only Microsoft includes this with the software package...
