Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: If your looking to learn the basic of Flash, this book isn't for you. This book assumes you already know the basics and are looking to move on to more advanced things. They showcase some of the best Flash developers and their skills. Each one starts out with a short interview with each author and then ends with a tutorial. I've only had the book for a week and have learned new techniques that had me scratching my head before...Excellent!
Rating: Summary: Interesting thought-provoking book Review: It is interesting to see how other flash designers/developers go through the creative process and reach an applied solution. Interesting how some designers approach the program from purely design perspective and others have begun to use Flash components like a programming language with mathematically functional designs. Parts of the book are a bit too chatty but for the most part, it's as useful as one of the Photoshop Wow! books. The end results of these projects are available on the web, of course, but how would you go about determining the design process? Very colorful presentation. A bit expensive and difficult to carry but recommended all the same.
Rating: Summary: VALUABLE RESOURCE FOR STEALING FLASH TIDBITS, PRETTY PICTURE Review: like other reviewers here, i bought this book looking for actionscript meat...having found little real info elsewhere. i was both excited and disappointed by this book, however. its clear from the description that you wont be getting a clear set of actionscript tutorials, so i dont understand why so many people here were upset by that. what you do get are loads of interesting examples of flash components and how to build them. some of the contributions are more interesting and useful than others, and i was especially peeved that not all of the contributions are included on the CD-ROM!overall, this is a good resource to A) keep on the coffee table for a flash geek dinner party B) consult for design ideas C) as a last resort, consult to adapt actionscript examples provided on the CD if youre looking for more detailed actionscript resources, youll have to wait til more books, such as foundation actionscript, are released.
Rating: Summary: Well produced, slick for motivation and design ideas Review: No, this isn't a "how to use the flash app" book, there's plenty of good ones out there for that (I found the "Teach yourself flash 5 in 24 hours" remarkably better than I had expected for this). The "new masters" book is an excellent full color wide page design concept book, to give intermediate/experienced users some new ideas and insights to build on. In this it does an excellent job. It's one thing to go to a website (I like flashkit) and see the 'cool sites' examples, it's more useful to read this kind of book, which gives you the original designers insights, tutorials, and even a half dozen interview movies, along with source flas' for many of the projects. So, it's more than worth the price of a PS2 game :) and I found it to be useful. I'm glad I didn't let the "but it doesnt explain how to code actionscript" neg reviews keep me from buying it. I paid full price at a local bookstore, wish I had bought it here on amazon instead :o Good book, worth getting for the intermediate+ level flash designer. Not for newbies. And, they tell you this.
Rating: Summary: rock on! wow. Review: No, this isn't a book of programming, or strictly a tutorial. But it's beautiful, inspiring, and it does give step by step on some specific designs. And it's the best book on advanced Flash that I've seen. The tutorials are mostly for reasonably high end designs such as you find on www.praystation.com and www.yugop.com, etc. What I like is that it is a good presentation on paper of what you look at as a designer on the screen, and it shows you the back-end in detail. You've probably already seen the designs, but this is still inspiring. If you need more pure design inspiration, this may not exactly be what you are looking for. But I love that it isn't afraid to launch into the mathematics behind these designs, it does assume that you know a few things, and I think it's an excellent book in a void of solid Flash reference. If you fully understand all the techniques employed in this you're ahead of the game, but if you were to work through all of this, using your own creative vision, you'd certainly feel more like a power user. It's certainly not going to hurt in the pursuit of your Flash muse.
Rating: Summary: name it - From New Masters of Flash to Masters of Flash Review: Stop, don't buy this book if you are not a Master of Flash. This book is a good source of inspirations and nothing else. The brief and unclear so to say examples will make you confused. The included CD is not going to help you either- it's just a well-done flash movie with the interviews and somewhat brief explanations on how to get the desirable effect that you are not going to get anyways; and why even bother. This book is definitely for somebody who knows Flash in and out; that much for this expensive book
Rating: Summary: very good for designers Review: That's a very good book for designers. There are a lot of tricks, but you will not find subjects like take a first glance to flash 5 or things like that.

Rating: Summary: Great Inspirations Review: The artists featured in this book are "la creme de la creme" of web designers. I find their work inspiring and very intelligent. This book describes the important role of Macromedia Flash as a cornerstone for web interactivity and creativity. Each writer takes the reader through his/her vision of art as a whole and web design in particular. This book is a must have for designers. It's not very well written (textually) and the code is based on Flash 4, but I believe it marks a new breed of computer/art related books, that are not all about technology, but mostly about personal recreation.
Rating: Summary: Not for Me Review: The description for this book led me believe and expect much more than I got. Tons of great names but little substance. It's a nice table top book or "studio" type book and perhaps thats they way they should sell it. But when you expect to learn advanced techniques from the experts it falls short. I found myself wanting more, not just a teaser project which was just a portion of the "real thing". I'm sure it has it's value as well, I was just too disappointed to see it. I got a refund on this one. Too much money for what I got. They even used outdated Flash 4 code in this one---sheesh!!!
