Summary: Good intro
Review: This book is well suited for a namesake semester course. We have used it, together with Murdocca's "Principles of Computer Architecture". The result has been quite satisfying for all of us. The book is well paced, and digital design topics are covered just enough to understand the second part of the book, about computer design fundamentals. This second part too is very well explained and many subtleties (e.g. details on CISC and RISC kind architectures) are precisely pointed out.
My only complain is that design concepts are explained with no reference to real CPUs (e.g. Intel, SPARC, Motorola, PowerPC), so if you are the kind of reader that likes a direct match on reality you'll have to look elsewhere to find some examples (e.g. Murdocca).

Summary: Good but Tough
Review: This book starts you out all the way from the basic gates and logic to sequential circuits and so on. You go from registers to memory structures and finally micro and macro architectures. It might be a little bit of a tough read if you don't have a professor to ask questions of though. I would recommend, nevertheless

Summary: Computers Don't Make Mistakes!
Review: This is a great book if you want study the theory of computers. How to create information with computer is really showed. There's all about 0s and 1s. There's not enough examples I think but otherwise everything is very clear.

Summary: Excellent introductory text
Review: This logic and computer design text is excellent for an introductory digital logic course. Although the text is slightly dated, the presentation of key concepts and ideas is clear and understandable. Overall, it provides a strong and thorough background on digital logic fundamentals.

Summary: Logic and Computer Design Fundamentals
Review: What is lacking in this book is detailed information on advanced topics, such as multipliers, look ahead carry circuits and state machines. The basic theory is covered well. Great for a first year college student.

Summary: Better off without the book
Review: Would you believe they used this book for a computer science class? The class is hell because of it and the teacher. It has no answers for problems so you don't know if you're right or wrong. It's examples that it does give are horrible and it never fully explains anything. It doesn't even deserve 1 star (how bout -2stars!).
