Rating: Summary: Outstanding Content, Wonderful Book Review: I have read multiple Flash books, and none of them compare to Unleashed. This book offers information as basic as the drawing tools and as complex as Flash remoting. The layout of this book is great making exercises and examples easy to find and are written clearly that lead down a path of success. The knowledge of these writers is clearly very deep and they share this knowledge is an easy to understand manner that can make anyone a full-blown professional Flash developer. Looking at past reviews, the web site seems to be complete to me, in fact I had a question and both Todd and Matt (the authors) responded to me personally. If you're going to spend your hard earned money on a Flash book, you can't go wrong with Flash MX Unleashed.
Rating: Summary: Lots of typos brings down the book from great to good Review: I have some experience with flash but really haven't created anything worth while to date. I picked this book up with hopes of developing applications and intergrating it with some asp scripts. The book does cover the integration but I read the entire thing from cover up until chapter 15 or so with the hopes of freshing my skills. Along the way I discovered numerous typos and lessons that referred to files that weren't in the downloadable files from the website. I also discovered several spots where the lessons left out a step or gave the wrong instruction on how to complete a task. As the book went on I found it harder and harder to figure out what the authors intended to say rather than what was printed. Overall there are some very helpful sections and I certainly gained alot from the book but I feel like the book was pushed through production and not read by an editor that actually did the lessons. Had they taken a little more time on editing and having someone do the lessons this book would have been great instead of just a good reference.
Rating: Summary: havnt read it but i love it! Review: i havnt read the book but im gonna buy it! thanks guys for your informative reviews
Rating: Summary: Best Reference to Date Review: I just got this book a few days ago and I wanted to write a review. I've only worked in depth with a couple of chapters and skimmed through the rest, but this book is top-notch. It offers great coverage on the subject of Flash, including the new MX features. Sams did a great job of putting this book together. This book really acts as a great learning tool as well as a solid reference, so you get the best of both worlds in a single book.
Rating: Summary: Good Solid Book Review: I looked over the reviews for this book and they go either way 5 stars or 1 star - not much in between. Well..I'm a five star guy and can't believe the 1 star ratings. I sat down and did about 7 or 8 of the lessons all without a hitch. The text is streamlined so you get the most information without a draining amount of novice information. If you're new to web development this book is not for you, if you're new to Flash this book may not be for you as well. The topics covered in this book, start off pretty basic, but ramp up quickly.I think the poor reviews this book got where from people who shouldn't have been reading it in the first place. On the back of the book it indicates that this book is for intermediate to advanced users. However, this book does have it's problems. There are some typos, which are annoying more than anything else and I wish it had a CD instead of a web site. I was reading this book on a plane. These problems, in my opinion, don't take away from the value of this book. Kudos to Sams.
Rating: Summary: Flash MX is easy Review: I needed to learn Flash MX and had the resources to buy only one book. I'm glad I picked up this one. Not only does it cover more topics on Flash than I could hope to learn, but the example and the exercises are easy to understand and follow. If you're in the same boat as me and need to learn Flash by yourself than this book can be your own personal teacher.
Rating: Summary: Great Flash MX Book! Review: I picked up this book about three weeks ago, and I can put it down. The exercises and examples in this book are written clearly, and in a way that makes sense. It covers everything from drawing in Flash, to animation, to ActionScript, to advanced database integration. The authors clearly are masters of Flash, with all the information and knowledge in this book, it's one of the best values in Flash books. I've watched some of the QuickTime movies on the companion web site, and they're awesome. If you're confused about a topic, these are the best way to get a clear understanding of the difficult topics. A+++ Unleashed breaks down all concepts, and makes total sense. I've used Flash 4 briefly, and now need to start working with MX for work. This book as been a tremendous help, and I would encourage anyone looking to learn Flash to pick up this book.
Rating: Summary: I am not sure what to expect: Review: I purchased the book to learn about Flash from a beginners standpoint up to intermediate. Early into the book, I found errors in the steps for the tutorials. I am in the process of reading it through, but it is discouraging that steps are incorrect in even the simplest examples. Obviously, it is hard to tell if the tutorials are accurate until you have already spent your money. So, for those of you reading, maybe look elsewhere for accurate info!

Rating: Summary: Too many mistakes... Review: I spent a good amount of time trying to get around the editorial mistakes in this book - one can even look at two diagrams (page 265, fig 10.16, 10.17) only to realize they are the same with a misplaced image. Did anyone proof this book? When I found a project (Advanced Interactivity Chapter, page 600) that was of particular importance to me, it abruptly ended after the intro and jumped to the next project. I thought this book would be great, but It just seems too much - weeding through this stuff and trying to second-guess the errors at the same time.
