Rating: Summary: Look else where Review: DHCP is a subject that not many authors want to touch. It's not a complicated subject to explain but once you try and implement a DHCP server, you'll find out how complicated it really can get. I did like this book because does cover the subject well. But doesn't cover enough. The book is only 230 pages (not 400 like the spec's say) it is indepth at some but shallow at others. If that makes any sense. I recommed The DHCP Handbook (2nd Edition). I needed something with more and The DHCP Handbook had it. DHCP for Windows 2000 seems like it's meant for the 70-216 test and not for pratical use. The DHCP Handbook has a lot of theory but it backs it up with practical knowledge. I'm not the type of person to read a book that is specifically meant for a test. I'd rather read the requirements of the test and buy 5 books instead of one because I'll pass the test and be able to do the job. Just say no to Paper MCSE.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Windows 2000 Admininstration and exam Reference Review: I found this book to be absolutely essential to an understanding of the integration between DHCP and DDNS in Windows 2000. The book is very logically laid out, and is clearly written by a person who knows this subject intimately. I would recommend this book as a must read to anyone who is attempting the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Network Infrastructure or Design exams. Real world network administrators will probably find this book sitting next to the DHCP server on your live Windows 2000 network, as it contains many step-by-step examples as well as a strong foundation in theory. Excellent coverage is given as well, to enabling downlevel clients to use DDNS in a mixed environment. A++++++++++
Rating: Summary: here you go Review: It's a easy subject to explain but once you try and implement a DHCP server, you'll find out how complicated it really can get. Mostly because people take DHCP servers for grandite. Their in the back of the room, lurking in the shadows, working quiety and silently. THeir so redundent, you'd never know their were their till everything fubar's. The book is only 230 pages (not 400 like the spec's say) it is indepth at some but shallow at others. If that makes any sense. It's not a beginner's book, so it requires a basic intro understanding of dhcp and what it does. This is a great book if you want to know how to do your job, it gives you more information then you'll need, but isn't that the way it should be? :) I'm using it to help with that 70-216 but I'm not the type of person to read a book that is specifically meant for a test. I'd rather read the requirements of the test and buy 5 books that cover them. Don't choose an answer because it's right, choose it because all others are wrong.
