Summary: Great book for no-budget film making!
Review: Michael's book has been both inspirational and informative. I think the best thing this book offers is the idea that you can go out and start making films right NOW! No need to wait till you have money together..no no no... Just get out and learn by doing, that's the way to go! Someone famous (i can't remember) once was asked how they became so successful in business. They answered, "well, I just lept off of the cliff and built my wings on the way down". Seems to me like this book brings forth the spirit of this phrase. I only gave it 5 stars.... because there wasn't a place to put 6 STARS! the last star YOU need fill in with your own actions and experience. And remember baby, actions speak louder than words. Now quit reading this damn review and buy this book!!!

Summary: $30 and a DREAM...
Review: $30 Film School is, quite simply, a MUST READ for any novice or amateur contemplating making a film. Especially artists' with little or no money who have no where to start from. This book is a great and AFFORDABLE springboard to launch from. Why? It contains a lot of information(Technical, Artisticaly, and Movie Biz-wise), provides a step-by-step overview of the whole filmaking process, and kicks you the REAL DEAL about the challenges you may face on your journey. Most importantly, it offers creative solutions to get around those challenges.

Personally, what I liked most about $30 Film School was it's fiercely independent attitude and "Do-It-Yourself" resourcefulness.

Filmaking and creating art in general may not always be a glamorous endeavor but the useful info., tips and insight provided in $30 Film School will help you better navigate though it, and ultimately, get your "art" into the WORLD!

Summary: 30 Dollor Film School
Review: I do not read alot at all, but there was somthing about this book that really caught my eye. The author really makes you feel like he is right there teaching you , there was not one piece of information I found boring. After ther first chapter I could not put this book down ! The only time I think I did was when the book inspired me to create my own art. What else can I say this guy knows his stuff!

Summary: A Journey not soon forgotten...
Review: A beginers journey into filmmaking is like standing on the shore of the river Styx and waiting to cross w/out any tokens... Falling into filmmaking is not an easy task and I suppose waiting for the Devil to appear w/ a contract would be the easy way out. Simply know that the passion and end result of YOUR creation must carry you through. This book of Michael W. Dean is a very upfront and honest approach to almost everything you will need to know about the process and then some. He has a very NO BULL attitude but playful at the same time telling you the facts, offering you examples and inspiring you to get your Ass out there and DO IT!! As a visual artist I find it frustrating w/ all realities obsticales (Money, time, contracts, rules, etc.) All I want to do is create and this book is an incredible inspiration to find the motivation and passion to persue your vision!!

Summary: A How To For An Upcoming Film Maker With NO Budget
Review: I would have to say that this book tells you in excellent detail, the how to's of cheap filmaking, without making a cheap looking film. With tips on writing, editing, directing, producing, lighting, fundraising, and even catering. Dean always nails home the fact that you can DO IT YOURSELF! He also makes it clear that no matter what, you just have to get out there and do it. Which is how it should be done. Art can not be held back. And if you lead by example, and really work hard, you will come away with something you will be proud of. DYI or DIE!

Summary: Best $30 I ever spent
Review: Michael tells you all you need to know to live your dream (assuming that your dream is to make movies on your own terms) he does it with a voice that is clear and to the point- He takes the red velvet rope down and lets the rest of us into party without selling our souls. After this there is no reason you can't D.I.Y. Enjoy - and Thanks Michael

Summary: Everything you need to know for D.I.Y. filmmaking.
Review: I loved the $30 Film School. Michael Dean covers every aspect of do it yourself film making in great detail, from scriptwriting, through production, postproduction, and distribution. It is thorough, at times very technical, yet it's a very entertaining read. Most of all, the book is very inspirational. Michael Dean has such a positive attitude, that by the time I got to the end I felt that there are no more excuses for not following your dream. Michael's approach to exhibition and distribution is absolute genius and it can apply to music and writing, too. To hell with Hollywood and corporate media, you can do it all your self and this book shows you how.

Summary: A go do book
Review: This is a great how to book. I normally don't like how to books; I'm a just do, trail and error, learn as you go type person. This book is more of go do book, then a how to book.

I mean has actual instructions on how to do stuff, and diagrams and educational tidbits; but the book is also a great inspirational tool. You can learn how to create a film (all the aspects are covered), and motivated to do it.

It has a lot of stories in it, so it has a real human feel; instead of the simple mechanical feel that some how to books have. There is some name dropping, but the author doesn't come off all high and mighty - more like a regular Joe Som. Which is is why it gives you the sense that you to can make a film, if you have the passion, and desire.

Summary: $30 Film School...worth $30,000
Review: This is by far the best book i have ever read. Michael W. Dean's entire idea with this book is amazing. I have gone to multiple film classes and such and never learnt as much as i have from this book. Michael covers everything there is to know about film-making (which very few people do. if they did that they couldn't get you to come back and pay for more classes). I love how michael teaches you how to do everything for no money. its fantastic. If you really want to get into film, this is the perfect start, or if you allready have started, this is a great way to continue in your search to make the perfect films. Michael reminds us, to do it ourselves, and stop waiting for hollywood to call us up to make a film with us, because its NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Stop waiting for the hollywood execs to phone and just go out and make a film! This book will teach you how!
