Rating: Summary: IS-IS NETWORK DESIGN Review: The book gives indepth knowledge of IS-IS in all its modes with good case studies. Case studies provide a practical perspective of various design strategies. Detailed explanation of how the IS-IS database works. Its worth reading this title.
Rating: Summary: Great book for IS-IS Review: This book really fills a gap as regards IS-IS documnetation - to date there have been VERY few resouces for IS-IS (with the exception of ISO-10589/RFC 1195, etc.). Doyle is okay if you want just enough IS-IS for the R&S CCIE, but this is the book for the real world and (I guess) the C&S CCIE track. I liked the whole book, but one part that I particularly liked was the comparison between IS-IS and OSPF - very balanced and detailed. If you aren't using Cisco boxes in your network, the first two thirds of this book are still great - it's only the last third that really details IS-IS configuration on Cisco boxes.BTW- I also have 'IS-IS Deployment in IP Networks' - if you only want to buy one book and are using Juniper boxes, I'd buy 'IS-IS Deployment in IP Networks' (and supplement with the Juniper docs). If you are using Cisco boxes - go for 'IS-IS Network Designs'. If you've got enough money, get them both!
